Interesting continuing education opportunity
❌ MYTH: If a patient doesn’t have a pulse and their skin is pale, you should immediately start chest compressions.
⚠️ REALITY: If that patient has an LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device), they might be perfectly conscious, talking to you, and completely stable—all without a palpable pulse or a measurable blood pressure.
Starting chest compressions on a properly functioning LVAD can be catastrophic, yet managing these high-acuity patients breaks almost every standard rule in the EMS playbook.
Do you know exactly what to do when you get the call?
