Did you know you can help prevent your baby from developing food allergies? Evidence shows that introducing food allergens early can lower the risk of your child developing a food allergy. 💡
To safely introduce allergens, you can:
🔹 Pay attention to timing: Start offering food allergens to your baby when they are ready, around 6 months, when other solids are introduced.
🔹 Avoid choking risks: Baby’s first foods should always be in baby friendly forms.
🔹 Start with one food at a time: Make sure you only offer one new food at a time. This way, if your baby has a reaction, you know which food caused it.
🔹 Understand common allergens: Eggs, dairy, nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, soy, and sesame are the most common allergies, so it is good to introduce them early.
🔹 Keep your healthcare and WIC team in the loop. They are here to answer questions and offer support during new stages of development!
