Kaleb’s journey with Lily Fire & Rescue began in January 2025 under the mentorship of Major Megan Jones. As of Tuesday August 25, 2026, Kaleb has officially been promoted to the rank of firefighter. We kindly request that you join us in celebrating this milestone and wishing him a happy 18th birthday.

🚨 INCIDENT RELEASE — HUNTER HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Friday, August 14, 2026 — 08:35 Hours

At approximately 08:35 hours on Friday, August 14, 2026, Lily Fire & Rescue was alerted and responded to 8325 S. U.S. 25, Hunter Hills Elementary School, regarding a reported strong natural gas odor.

Upon arrival, responding fire personnel did not observe or detect any odor outside the facility. As a precaution, Lily Fire & Rescue deployed a calibrated gas monitoring device and conducted a thorough examination of the exterior perimeter of the school premises. No elevated readings were detected on the exterior.

Fire personnel then conducted a precautionary walkthrough of the interior of the school. During this examination, elevated readings were detected in the cafeteria/kitchen area, specifically near appliances utilized for cooking.

As a precautionary measure, students and faculty were evacuated from the facility. Exterior doors and windows were opened to provide ventilation and remove any residual odor from the building.

NO ELEVATED READINGS WERE DETECTED IN OR NEAR ANY CLASSROOMS. Elevated readings were confined to the kitchen area near cooking appliances.

School personnel and fire department personnel worked together to identify the suspected source. The equipment involved has been placed out of service pending examination by a qualified service representative and any necessary repairs. School officials also made alternative arrangements for lunch for the students.

We want to emphasize that at no time were any children in danger. The evacuation was conducted strictly as a precautionary safety measure. During the evacuation, school staff provided beverages to students and faculty.

NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED as a result of this incident.

* Laurel County Board of Education personnel

This incident was handled as a precaution, and the appropriate measures were taken to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Dale Dobson, a highly respected fire service instructor, mentor, and friend. Dale dedicated countless hours to educating first responders, with a particular passion for teaching farm machinery and ATV accident response. His expertise, practical experience, and commitment to firefighter safety helped prepare responders to handle some of the most challenging emergencies they would encounter.

Dale’s willingness to share his knowledge, encourage others, and invest in the next generation of emergency responders left a lasting impact on departments and individuals across the fire service. The lessons he taught extended far beyond the classroom—they have undoubtedly helped save lives and improve the safety of both responders and the communities they serve.

While the fire service has lost an exceptional instructor, his legacy will continue through every firefighter, EMT, and rescuer who applies the skills and knowledge he so generously shared.

On behalf of all of us, we extend our deepest condolences to Dale’s family, friends, and the many members of the emergency services community whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever honored for his dedication to the fire service.

Rest easy, Dale. Your watch is complete, but your legacy will continue to guide those who answer the call.
