📚 BACK TO SCHOOL IS TOMORROW! 🚌✏️

Tomorrow morning, the roads will be a little bit busier as our kids head back to school. For some, it’s the first day of kindergarten. For others, it’s the start of another year with new teachers, new friends, new challenges, and new opportunities.

To all of our students… believe in yourself, work hard, be kind, and don’t be afraid to chase your goals. You’ve got a whole new year ahead of you. Make it a great one!

And to all the parents, drivers, and neighbors in the Boone Trail community, SLOW DOWN and PAY ATTENTION. Those few extra seconds could make all the difference.

A FEW BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDERS:

🚌 SCHOOL BUS STOP LAW
• Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and be prepared to stop.
• Red flashing lights + the stop arm extended = STOP. Remain stopped until the red lights are off, the stop arm is retracted, and the bus begins moving.
• On most two-lane roads, traffic in BOTH directions must stop for a stopped school bus.
• On a divided highway with a physical median, traffic traveling in the opposite direction generally does not have to stop. On roads with four or more lanes and only a center turn lane, only traffic following the bus must stop.

🚸 WATCH FOR OUR KIDS
• Slow down in school zones and neighborhoods.
• Watch for children walking, riding bikes, or waiting at bus stops.
• Expect the unexpected… a child running late for the bus may not be watching traffic.
• Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road.
• Give yourself extra time in the morning. Being a few minutes late is better than not getting there at all.

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July from Boone Trail Emergency Services! 🇺🇸

We know many of you will be celebrating with family, friends, and backyard fireworks tonight. We want everyone to have a great time… but we also want everyone to make it home safe.

A few things to think about.

💥 Last year, an estimated 13,000 people were treated in emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries, with about 1,300 injuries involving sparklers alone. Sparklers may seem harmless, but they can burn at over 2,000°F, hot enough to cause severe burns in seconds. Children are especially at risk, accounting for more than one-third of fireworks related emergency room visits.

🔥 With the extremely dry conditions we’re still experiencing, it won’t take much for a stray ember or burning debris to start a grass fire. Please keep an eye out for fallout and spot fires after lighting fireworks.

A few quick reminders:
• Have a water hose or bucket of water nearby.
• Never let children handle fireworks, including sparklers.
• Light one firework at a time and never try to relight a dud.
• Soak all spent fireworks in a bucket of water before throwing them away.
• Before heading inside, take a few extra minutes to check your yard and surrounding area for anything smoldering.

If something does get out of hand, don’t hesitate to call 911 immediately.

Effective 06/21/2026, department leadership underwent changes with the promotion of the following individuals:

• Lieutenant (1209) Anthony Lynch
• Lieutenant (1210) Logan Johnson

These promotions are a testament to their exceptional performance, and exemplary leadership within our department. Each of these individuals has consistently demonstrated leadership qualities, a commitment to excellence, and a profound passion for serving our community.

They both will serve as part-time employees. Lieutenant Lynch brings 8 years of experience and hold an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Protection Technology. Lieutenant Johnson brings 10 years and holds an Associate of Applied Science in Funeral Service Education.
