Recently, U.S. Coast Guard Station Kauai held a Change of Command ceremony. A time honored tradition that symbolizes the formal transfer of authority, responsibility, and accountability from one leader to another. It’s more than just a ceremony. It represents the continuity of command and the deep respect we hold for our service and each other.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to BOSN Michael McHugh, who faithfully served as Officer in Charge of Station Kauai. His leadership, commitment to duty, and steady hand, made a lasting impact on our crew and the community we serve. We are proud to congratulate him on his well deserved promotion to Chief Warrant Officer. A true testament to his dedication and excellence.

As we turn the page, we are honored to welcome Chief Petty Officer Kevin J. Chapman as the new Officer in Charge of Station Kauai. With his experience, integrity, and passion for service, we are excited for the future under his leadership.

Fair winds and following seas to BOSN Michael McHugh, and welcome aboard, BMC Chapman!

Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center watchstanders received a report from Kauai Fire Department personnel at approximately 1:40 p.m. of a helicopter that crashed with three people aboard approximately a quarter mile off the Na Pali Coast of Kauai. The Kauai Fire Department responded with an Air 1 helicopter crew, zodiac rescue watercraft crews, and Ocean Safety officers aboard jet skis.

The helicopter that crashed was a Robinson R44 from the Ali’i Kauai Air Tours and Charters company in Kauai. The helicopter had one pilot and two passengers aboard.

Congratulations on Chief Whetsell’s ceremonious advancement to Chief Petty Officer! It is a monumental point in an enlisted person’s career usually taking between 10 to 20 years. Being the Chief is a symbol of leadership. Coast Guard Chiefs are considered equal to Navy Chiefs, and we were happy to have PMRF’s Chief’s Mess here to celebrate his advancement.
Station Kauai is grateful to have Chief Whetsell as our Engineering Petty Officer!
