This morning, more than two dozen of our linemen and apprentices arrived on Kauai to join our other employees who arrived last week in providing mutual aid for our neighboring utility, Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC).

As of Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, around 7,000 KIUC customers are without power following the severe damage from Hurricane Lowell. Our Hawaiian Electric crews will be assisting with restoration primarily on the North Shore (Kilauea, Princeville, Hanalei), where approximately 4,400 customers remain without power due to extensive damage and the loss of the only transmission line serving the area. Additionally, fresh crews from Southern California Edison (SCE) will be assisting with restoration of power primarily on Kauai's West side (Waimea, Kekaha).

Our vehicles, from bucket trucks to trailers and a flatbed, have arrived on Kauai by barge, and a military transport is moving SCE trucks from Hawaii Island to Kauai.

For Kauai residents who are still without power, please be assured that KIUC is aware and working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore service. Their crews, along with our Hawaiian Electric and SCE crews and other contractors, will be continuing to work around the clock to repair the KIUC grid throughout this week.

For additional information, KIUC posts restoration updates on their website at kiuc.coop/news-releases.

KIUC members on Kauai can report downed lines or poles by calling their 24/7 phone line at (808) 246-4300.
