June is Indigenous History Month!

This month, and every month, we honor the Native Hawaiian community and the deep connection to ʻāina, culture, and storytelling that shapes Kaua‘i.

Film has a unique power to preserve and share these narratives, and we are proud to support projects that lift up and reflect the authentic voices of our island.

: While filming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 2010, Johnny Depp personally spent over $60,000 to provide high-quality waterproof jackets for 500 crew members. The production dealt with heavy Kauaʻi rains, and Depp wanted to ensure the team remained warm and dry during the long outdoor shoots 🌧

It’s , and we’re throwing it back to Alan Grant's 2000 return to the Garden Isle for Jurassic Park III!

While the franchise is famous for its iconic Isla Nublar landscapes, Jurassic Park III utilized the vast grasslands of Jurassic Kahili Ranch on our North Shore for the epic dinosaur stampede scenes. This private 2,800-acre property is a favorite for the production team, appearing in three different films in the series.

Which film in the franchise do you think captured Kaua‘i’s beauty best? 👇🏼

: Olokele Canyon

Tucked away in West Kauai near Waimea Canyon, Olokele is a deep, lush red-rock canyon known for its extreme, untouched beauty. The area is primarily private land, which makes it largely inaccessible to the public. As part of the volcanic, mountainous region of Kauaʻi, these steep-walled formations were also the site of a significant rockfall-avalanche event in 1981.

Hollywood directors frequently use this “lost world” aesthetic to create iconic cinematic moments. You can spot the canyon’s rugged backdrop in the original Jurassic Park and the jungle scenes of George of the Jungle. Since there are no public roads or trails, the interior is best viewed through specialized helicopter tours.

It’s May, which means it’s Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!

This month, we’re honoring the incredible talent of AAPI creators who serve as the heartbeat of the Garden Isle’s cinematic legacy. Our skilled local crews, cultural advisors, and the actors who bring Hawaiʻi stories to global audiences all fuel our thriving film industry.

As the 2026 production slate continues to grow across the islands, we remain committed to fostering a creative economy where our indigenous storytellers and AAPI professionals can thrive!

Wishing you a Happy and a wonderful weekend from Kauaʻi’s South Shore!

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaiʻi!

The lei has served as a powerful symbol of aloha and hospitality in cinematic staples like Blue Hawaii, South Pacific, Lilo & Stitch, and more. While these films have captured the imagination of audiences worldwide, it is the artistry of our local lei makers and cultural practitioners that brings this authentic touch to the films we love.

Happy !
