Intense rainfall has led to flooded roadways in certain areas. We’ve received reports of downed trees, and multiple traffic signals are in flash.

Remember: just 12 inches of rushing water can carry away most vehicles. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN.

If you encounter flooded roads, seek an alternate route and use extra caution while traveling.

Champion! This week, more than 25 county and municipal competitors came together to compete in the APWA Chicago Metro Backhoe challenge, and Lake County’s own Kevin Wilkins took home 1st place!🏆

Competitors were tested on various challenges that are designed to test the operator's capabilities, skills and knowledge of the machine. Kevin will now advance to compete at the National Equipment Roadeo later this year.

Backhoes are one of the most important tools transportation departments use every day. From repairing roads and culverts to clearing storm damage, digging trenches and responding to emergencies, these machines help crews keep roads safe and projects moving efficiently. Operating them safely and accurately takes training, experience and skill, and competitions like this showcase the professionalism and skill behind the work our crews perform year-round.

Congratulations, Kevin, and best of luck at nationals!
