Harvest season is here! Today also kicks off National Farm Safety & Health Week: Safety First, Avoid the Worst later. This graphic has some great information on how to stay safe this harvest season! Remember to share the road, and give a big wave to the person driving the equipment if you do pass them!

Every farmer deserves to make it home safely after a long day in the field – because feeding America shouldn’t come with a risk on the road. As harvest season ramps up across the country, rural roads are busier than ever with slow-moving farm equipment. It’s a critical time to stay alert, be patient, and share the road responsibly.

Some tips to keep everyone safe include:

Farmers can equip machinery with Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) signs, reflective tape and working lights.

Drivers can slow down when approaching farm equipment, watch for wide turns, and wait for a safe, legal opportunity to pass.

Let’s work together to ensure a safe and productive harvest season. Respect the hard work happening in our fields, and the shared responsibility on our roads.
