Good morning everyone. As this winter storm nears, it is looking more likely that we will see a significant amount of snow. We encourage you to have a plan that will get you through the weekend and likely the first half of next week as clean up will likely take a few days. Travel will be difficult with this amount of snow and then we are looking at winds which will cause drifting so some roads may become impassable. If you have an emergency or believe there is a possibility of an emergency don't hesitate to call 911. If you are on the phone with them and think about it, mention to them if your road has been cleaned recently or if it may be blocked. That will allow us to reach out for snow clearing assistance so our trucks have a chance to make it down the road. Our travel time will be affected by this amount of snow and every second saved helps us reach you. Also, please remember that our station is not manned until a call from dispatch is received, please DO NOT call the fire station to get assistance and DO NOT message this page in an emergency. 911 is who you will need to contact in any emergency situation in order to get the help you need the quickest.
A major winter storm will bring heavy snow to most of central and southeast Illinois from late Saturday night through Monday morning, as well as periods of freezing rain in southeast Illinois. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for most of the area. Snow accumulations could range over 12 inches in some of the area. Winds look to be strong enough Sunday night to produce some areas of blowing and drifting snow. Snow and ice amounts still remain uncertain, however you should prepare now for disruptions to daily life, hazardous driving conditions, and closures and disruptions to infrastructure. Below normal temperatures can be expected today and Saturday with highs mainly in the 20s, and lows in the teens. Below normal temperatures will continue Sunday and Monday, then temperatures will turn even colder. Blustery winds gusting 20 to 30 mph can be expected today.
