Garrison School Cultural Center board members and docents were among those attending today’s groundbreaking for Hope Village, a long-planned housing initiative that will bring 21 attainable homeownership opportunities to the neighborhood around 32nd and Chestnut on Kansas City’s East Side.
The Hope Center, a nonprofit serving young people and families throughout the East Side, is developing the community on previously vacant property. Plans call for nine detached homes and six duplexes for buyers whose household incomes fall between 80% and 120% of the area median income. Qualified purchasers may enter their new homes with approximately $50,000 in equity already established.
Hope Village will extend beyond construction by offering prospective homeowners financial literacy instruction, homebuyer education and continued support throughout the ownership process. The project has received more than $1.9 million from Kansas City’s Central City Economic Development Sales Tax program.
After more than a decade of planning, the groundbreaking formally launched a construction process expected to unfold over the next three years.
