Here is a picture of Noah Collyer. In 1897, Noah along with Glenn Calkins and Earl Robeson started out at 115 W. Union Street. In 1912 the shop moved to a wood frame building just north of where the First Merchant's Bank is now. Noah was a barber until the day he died in 1931 at the age of 66. Noah's son, Bennett Collyer joined in the barber trade in 1918. In 1924, the shop moved to its last location on 8 E. Union Street. Franklin Collyer, the son of Bennett, entered the barber business in 1957.

Picture: Collyer Barber Shop early 1930's.
Barbers= Bennett Collyer (front) & Bert Lyons. Mary Catherine Collyer, daughter of Bennett, is in the chair. This picture was taken in the current Collyer Barber Shop location. This is the third location.

The first shop was on the Woodruffs lot and faced the former Union County National Bank. The first shop was founded by Bennett's father, Noah Collyer in 1886. The second location of the shop was on N. Main St. where UCNB/Shell are located. The shop moved to it's current location, 8 E Union St, in 1924.

When I was a kid I watched several REDS games from those barber chairs. Some of my best childhood memories.
