The water we all use directly impacts our Spokane River this time of year. Please consider reducing your water usage, especially during the day!!! Daytime watering is the least efficient and least effective for your landscapes.

Over the weekend, the Spokane Riverkeeper documented a stretch of the Spokane River, which was incredibly dry. 🥵

Many factors can determine river levels but in this particular case, this stretch of the river is closely connected to the aquifer. Water from the aquifer acts as a gaining reach, recharging the Spokane River. Hot summer months means we pull a significant amount of water out of the aquifer to water our lawns. This can add up to a losing reach in the Spokane River where the aquifer is not full enough to help recharge. 🪫

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. - The cold temperatures are resulting in freezing pipes and water meters across the Inland Northwest.

02/04/2025

With the cold weather some of our customers have been experiencing frozen meters. We wanted to let our customers know that if you have no water in your house, we have not turned your water off, it's most likely that your water meter or service is frozen. Please contact our office 8am-430pm at (509) 922-5443 or our after hours number at (509) 623-7920 so we can assist you.

Here are 4 tips for preventing frozen water pipes:
Insulate exposed pipes:
Wrap pipes in unheated areas (like basements, attics, and crawl spaces) with foam pipe insulation or heat tape. This extra layer of protection helps maintain the temperature of the water inside the pipes.
Keep the heat on:
Maintain a consistent temperature in your home, even when you're away. Set your thermostat no lower than 55°F (13°C) to ensure warm air circulates throughout the house, including areas with plumbing.
Allow faucets to drip:
On extremely cold nights, let cold water drip slowly from faucets served by exposed pipes. Running water, even at a trickle, helps prevent pipes from freezing.
Open cabinet doors:
Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing, especially if sinks are on an exterior wall. This simple step can help keep the pipes warm and prevent freezing.
Remember, prevention is key when it comes to frozen pipes. Implementing these tips can save you from costly repairs and water damage in the long run.
