I’ve been in Olympia since yesterday morning with City Administrator Mark McAvoy and Councilmember Summer Darrow to attend the annual Association of Washington City Action Days.

This is an opportunity for us to get State legislative updates, meet with our local representatives (Suzanne Schmidt & Rob Chase) and Senator (Leonard Christian) to advocate for our city

I usually thoroughly enjoy these events and going to the Capital is always exciting

Unfortunately today there was more excitement than I needed - I was assaulted by one of the protesters as I was walking to one of the buildings for a meeting

The protest was permitted, and I will not disclose the cause that they were supporting. I 100% support the right to free speech and the right to protest so long as it is peaceful. It was only ONE person of this group who unfortunately spoiled the otherwise peaceful (though loud) walk around the main building

The group was walking towards me (and others) on the busy sidewalk. I stood my ground and kept walking upstream saying “excuse me”. Everyone was polite and we easily navigated around each other

Until someone decided to not be polite. This woman, twice or more my size and taller than me decided to full body slam me, knocking me off my feet and I landed on my rear about 4 feet away

I will say that my language back to her as I sat in the grass was not at all pleasant and I called her some no so nice things. I guess that’s what I do when someone knocks me to the ground without provocation No way to predict that as I’ve never had this happen before

At first there was no security to be found. I eventually found State Patrol to report it.

He said I could try to press charges - good luck identifying or finding the person despite all the cameras at th Capital (my words, not his)

The other choice is the possibility of this group losing their permit and/or being fined. That’s the route I chose

It’s very sad that this one person has ruined things for this group.

It’s a very good lesson to not judge an entire group based on the actions of one individual - I don’t care which side of the political spectrum you’re on or if you support a particular issue or not.

Looking for volunteers to help with a toy drive this weekend!

Location - Walmart on Broadway

All donations are distributed to children and their families in our local hospitals: Shriners, Sacred Heart, Ronald McDonald House

Several years ago I met Jasmine and her family during one of the first toy drives in the Valley.

I asked how I could help - now i’m on the board and managing volunteers for this year This toy drive is happening in 10 Walmart markets across WA and Oregon over several weekends

ASK: bodies to take 2-3 hour shifts with me this coming Saturday and Sunday. Interact with customers to encourage them to buy a toy or anything else on the wish list.
