We are thrilled to share that construction is complete!

Beginning Monday, March 9, we will reopen the soup kitchen to the public for lunch (12:00–1:00 p.m.) and dinner (5:00–6:00 p.m.) as we fine-tune operations and train our new team in the commercial kitchen.

On March 16 at 11:00 a.m., we will celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by tours of the facility.

After the ceremony, we will begin accepting new clients for overnight stays on a limited basis, welcoming five new individuals per week until we reach capacity.

Beginning March 16, 2026, the City of Liberal will no longer be able to accept pennies for cash transactions. This is due to bank policy changes as a result of discontinued penny production.
All cash transactions will be rounded up to the nearest nickel. To avoid this rounding, please pay with check or card payment. Utility bills will be credited for payment over the original bill amount.

A partir del 16 de marzo de 2026, la Ciudad de Liberal ya no podrá aceptar centavos para transacciones en efectivo. Esto se debe a cambios en la política bancaria como resultado de la interrupción de la producción de centavos.
Todas las transacciones en efectivo se redondearán al 5 centavos más cercano. Para evitar este redondeo, pague con cheque o tarjeta. Se abonará el importe de las facturas de servicios públicos por encima del monto original.

🚨 FIRE UPDATE – SEWARD COUNTY 🚨

There are currently two active fires in Seward County. A Disaster Declaration has been made, and multiple surrounding counties are actively assisting with containment efforts.

At this time, there is NO evacuation threat to Liberal.

However, the Kansas Highway Patrol has issued precautionary evacuations for the southwest corner of Seward County.

🔥 Conditions can change quickly. Please stay alert, monitor trusted sources, and be prepared to act if needed.

Although, it’s not quite finished yet, we wanted to give an update on our shelter. We are so excited!! We will be giving more information as it comes. We are extremely thankful for all of the people who have made this project a success.
