I got more petition signatures for Joshua Crockett for McLean County Clerk today. I have signatures from people throughout the county, but today focused on District 1, where I am running for County Board. I enjoy  being obliged to get out of the house (well, not initially, but eventually) and made a few stops at Lake Bloomington, Money Creek Township, and Hudson. I had a chance to reconnect with a man I haven’t seen since he graduated from high school in 1971! A new friend mentioned him last night and he happened to be out tending to his 220 tomato plants when I drove by. If any of you in good McLean County have not yet signed for Josh and would like to, I can come find you over the next few days.

Exciting news from the union negotiations!

Illinois State University and the AFSCME union that represents buildings, dining and food service workers announced late Monday that they've reached a tentative deal, likely ending the longest single-unit strike in ISU history.

My dad, Joe, was a Money Creek Township precinct committeeman, and for several years was Money Creek Township assessor. For a period of time he was the treasurer for the McLean County Democrats, which for many years was headed by John Baldini of Lucca Grill.

On Saturdays when I was in grade school Dad would drop me off at the Castle or the Irvin Theatre, and after my movie I would walk to the Knights of Columbus, which before it burned down was on Main Street. (It has had several locations since then.) After he finished playing cards, we would go to the Lucca Grill and sit at the bar for what seemed to me to be an interminable amount of time, while Dad and John Baldini talked politics.

Some of that political talk apparently rubbed off on me. I am now a Money Creek precinct committeeman, a Money Creek Township trustee, and am running for County Board in District One, the largest district in McLean County.
