Lexington Fire Department would like to take a moment to recognize and thank the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lexington Oklahoma Fire Department and the incredible women working behind the scenes to support our firefighters and our community.

In less than a year, this group has already made a tremendous difference. From fundraising and community events to making sure our firefighters have food, drinks, supplies, and encouragement during long calls, these ladies help keep our crews prepared, supported, and energized when it matters most.

A fire department is much more than the firefighters you see responding on the trucks.

Behind every successful organization are people willing to give their time, energy, and talents without expecting recognition in return. Our Ladies Auxiliary has quickly become an important part of the Lexington Fire family.

What they have accomplished in such a short amount of time is something our entire community can be proud of—and we are excited to see what the future holds as they continue to grow.

🚨 IMPORTANT WATER NOTICE – CITY OF LEXINGTON 🚨

Please plan ahead for a temporary citywide water shutoff/low-pressure event tomorrow, Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

💧 Date: Wednesday, September 2
⏰ Time: Approximately 3:30 PM – 10:00 PM
📍 Area: Citywide

City crews will be working to replace water valves, which will result in low water pressure throughout the city during this time.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to prepare ahead of time by having enough water available for drinking, cooking, pets, and other necessary needs.

🚒 Lexington Fire Department is aware of the scheduled outage and has planned accordingly for emergency operations during this period.

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with your neighbors, family, and friends.

Your generosity in helping your local volunteer fire department is greatly appreciated.

Sometimes our friends in law enforcement just want to know what it feels like to have the coolest job around. Lexington Fire was happy to make that dream come true! 😂

INCIDENT SUMMARY — MUTUAL-AID GRASS/BRUSH FIRE

On August 27, 2026, the Lexington Fire Department responded as mutual aid alongside the Cedar Country Fire and Rescue CCFD and Noble Fire Department to a reported grass and brush fire in Town of Slaughterville, OK

The fire was reportedly started when a property resident discharged Tannerite, causing an explosion that produced sparks and ignited the surrounding dry vegetation. Due to the current weather and drought conditions, the fire spread quickly and threatened multiple nearby homes and other structures.

Firefighters from all responding agencies worked together to contain the fire, protect the threatened homes, and prevent additional property damage. Despite their efforts, one storage shed was destroyed.

One property resident sustained minor burn injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

This incident is an important reminder that shooting Tannerite creates an explosion, and explosions can produce sparks capable of igniting dry grass and vegetation. Under the current fire-weather conditions, even a small spark can quickly develop into a dangerous and destructive wildfire.

Please use extreme caution and avoid activities that could produce flames, sparks, or excessive heat. Individuals may be held responsible for fire-suppression costs and property damage resulting from reckless discharges, illegal burning, or other negligent actions that start a fire.

⚡ TRAINING TOGETHER. PREPARING TOGETHER. SERVING TOGETHER. 🚒

The Lexington Fire Department would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC) for bringing their Live Wire Training to us tonight!

This hands-on demonstration gave our firefighters an opportunity to see firsthand the dangers associated with energized electrical equipment and reinforced the importance of scene safety when responding to emergencies involving power lines and electrical systems.

We also want to thank our brothers and sisters from Purcell Fire Department, Town of Slaughterville, OK Slaughterville Fire Department, and Cedar Country Fire and Rescue CCFD for coming out and training alongside us.

Opportunities like tonight are about more than learning new skills—they strengthen the relationships between the departments that routinely work side-by-side when our communities need us most.

Thank you to OEC for investing in the safety and education of our local first responders, and thank you to everyone who took the time to participate.
