June 1-5 marks Emergency Management Professionals Week! On Wednesday, members of our team received a proclamation from Mayor Gorton in honor of this week. Thank you, Mayor Gorton, and all of our Public Safety partners, for supporting us throughout the year and at all times. We are extremely fortunate to have these partnerships that aid our goal of keeping Lexington and Fayette County safe, prepared, and resilient.

This week we kicked off the call to artists for the Art Shelter Program that is growing as we are adding four additional works of art along the Versailles Road Corridor. This project is an opportunity to highlight the talent of local artists while enhancing an important major road in our city. I hope these designs inspire a sense of pride and connection for everyone who travels along Versailles Road. I want to especially thank for working with my office to make this program a reality as well as my Council Colleagues, and the Corridors Commission. This project was a large group effort and I am elated to see it come to fruition.

Esta semana lanzamos la convocatoria para artistas del Programa de Arte en las paradas del autobús, que sigue creciendo mientras añadimos cuatro obras de arte adicionales a lo largo del Corredor de Versailles Road. Este proyecto es una oportunidad para destacar el talento de los artistas locales mientras se mejora una importante vía principal de nuestra ciudad. Espero que estos diseños inspiren un sentido de orgullo y conexión para todas las personas que transitan por Versailles Road. Quiero agradecer especialmente a Lextran por trabajar con mi oficina para hacer realidad este programa, así como a mis colegas del Concejo y a la Comisión de Corredores. Este proyecto fue el resultado de un gran esfuerzo colectivo y estoy encantado de verlo hacerse realidad.

📣 Join us for an 11th District Community Meeting on June 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the Marksbury Family Branch Library.

We’ll be joined by representatives from the Lexington Police Department, Lexington Fire Department, the Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention, and Parks & Recreation.

This meeting is designed to be a conversation. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and hear directly from city officials about issues impacting our community. We hope to see you there!

It was an honor to participate in the ground Breaking yesterday for Open Door Housing Inc’s new development on Addison Ave in the 11th District. I am thrilled that they saw a need by community members for affordable housing and saught to fill that need. This is a great infill project that is utilizing city Affordable Housing funds to be able to offset the cost and offer the four units at a low cost. Thank you to everyone involved! Housing is a basic human necessity. No one can survive or thrive without it. The only way we will make a dent in our housing crisis, the only way we will find housing for the most vulnerable, is by doing exactly what Open Door did and start finding ways to build more housing, one unit at a time.

Fue un honor participar ayer en la ceremonia de colocación de la primera piedra del nuevo proyecto de Open Door Housing Inc. en Addison Ave, en el Distrito 11. Me alegra mucho que hayan detectado la necesidad de vivienda asequible entre los miembros de la comunidad y se hayan propuesto cubrirla. Este es un excelente proyecto de relleno urbano que utiliza fondos municipales de la vivienda asequible para compensar el costo y ofrecer las cuatro unidades a bajo precio. La vivienda es una necesidad humana básica. Nadie puede sobrevivir ni prosperar sin ella.
