🐝FCCD In May🐝

Kicked off the month by leading Locust Trace Environmental Science classes with a brief lesson focused on soil for Soil Stewardship Week, followed by a soil porosity lab.

Gave a soil texture demonstration to Lexington Middle School and visited their new pollinator garden, funded by our Conservation and Education Grant and planted by the PTSA and students.

Hosted a regional NRCS Work Unit meeting, providing a platform for local conservation voices to be heard, shaping the future of our natural resources.

Wrapped up the beautiful month of May doing one of our favorite activities, PLANTING TREES! This event took place at Glendover Elementary and was organized by Environmental Educator, Mia Murphy, along with the Bluegrass Youth Sustainability Council, and Trees Lexington!

Mayor Greenburg’s proposed budget calls for severe cuts to the Jefferson County Soil & Water Conservation District. These cuts put critical conservation work at risk. From watershed protection to promoting sustainable agriculture, strong communities invest in the land and water that sustains them. Send a comment to your Metro Council representative and tell them to fully fund the Soil & Water Conservation District.
