Lexington Emergency Management will test its network of outdoor warning sirens TOMORROW, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

If you live near a park or golf course, expect to hear the outdoor siren sound a series of chimes followed by a voice announcement, “This is a test.”

This is a regularly scheduled test - THERE IS NO EMERGENCY - THIS IS FOR TESTING PURPOSES ONLY. Please do not call 9-1-1 about the siren test.

Remember: Lexington’s outdoor siren system is designed to alert people who are outdoors. The siren system is not intended to alert people inside homes, apartments, or office buildings.

Spring cleaning? We need your gently-used school supplies! The City of Lexington is partnering with Lexington Middle School to give your old school supplies a new purpose. Until June 22, you can donate new and gently-used school supplies to students who will need them next school year.

Donations will be given to Lexington Middle School and other Fayette County middle schools, depending on how many supplies are collected. Supplies will be distributed by the school to students who need them. Your donations will join school supplies collected by Transylvania University students at the end of their spring semester.

Accepted items include binders, backpacks, notebooks, pencils, dry erase markers, pencil cases and cleaning wipes. All supplies should be in good condition, with no old stickers, ink marks or tears.

Donations can be taken to Lexington’s Electronics Recycling Center, 1306 Versailles Road, during operating hours. The center is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Wednesday from noon – 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. – noon. Holiday hours and information about electronics recycling can be found at lexingtonky.gov/ewaste.

Council Members got an up-close look at the ongoing construction of the new Senior and Therapeutic Recreation Center at Shillito Park during recent site visits.

The 26,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open later this year and will provide services for Lexington seniors while expanding programming opportunities for Therapeutic Recreation, which supports individuals with disabilities and special needs.

Council approved funding for the center’s design ($1.6 million) in 2023 and for its construction ($24 million) in 2024. Learn more at LexingtonKY.gov!
