Today is the last day to register for Bluegrass River Run with Explore Kentucky!

The 9th annual Bluegrass River Run is this Saturday, June 6, and this year the event will start and conclude at Kelley’s Landing! Participants can enjoy a scenic 3 mile out and back float trip, perfect for a leisurely paddle beneath the towering 60+ foot cliffs of the river’s palisades. For those looking for a little competition, the same course will also host a paddle race, giving paddlers a chance to test their speed while still taking in one of Kentucky’s most beautiful river corridors.

A variety of canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards will be available for rent. The registration deadline is coming up on May 29. To learn more and register, visit www.explorekentucky.us/bluegrassriverrun.

The Blue Sky Works Draft is now live and available to view in its entirety on the project website. This draft represents months of research, analysis, and community input focused on shaping the future of Lexington’s Blue Sky industrial area.

The plan explores opportunities to improve mobility, land use, economic development, and long-term connectivity while supporting the businesses and workers that make the area an important part of Lexington’s economy.

Community feedback continues to play an important role in the process, and residents, business owners, property owners, and stakeholders are encouraged to review the draft and stay engaged as the project moves forward. A public hearing on the draft is scheduled for June 11 at 1:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE 🚧

UPDATE: KYTC has stopped work on this project for now to consult their geotechnical branch before proceeding with the work. They were able to complete a field review late last week and hope to have a recommendation on how to proceed by the middle of this week. In the meantime, the site has been secured and reopened with a single lane configuration. Stone has been placed around the failure edge to prevent a vehicle from exiting the road. Thank you for your patience and understanding - we will continue to keep you updated as we learn more.

With the Courtesy Street Tree Pruning Program taking place in some area of the District, here are a few friendly reminders for street tree pruning:

- The neighborhoods chosen for the Courtesy Street Tree Pruning Program are done so on a rotating basis across the whole city.

- Per Chapter 17B, it is the homeowner's responsibility to maintain the trees in the public right-of-way, and that includes maintaining proper clearance.

-Street Trees over sidewalks must be pruned to a height of 7 feet. Street trees should be pruned to a minimum of 12 feet on the street-side of the tree to allow large vehicles to pass beneath.

- Proper pruning helps keep your tree healthy and beautiful by removing dead, damaged and diseased limbs.

For more information, please visit lexingtonky.gov/TreeCare. Thank you for helping to maintain a healthy tree canopy throughout the 12th District!

LFUCG Environmental Services will soon begin their Neighborhood Courtesy Pruning Service to achieve street tree clearance (12' of clearance on the roadway side of the street trees and 7' of clearance on the sidewalk side of the street trees.).

In the 12th District, they will be in Blackford Oaks, Gleneagles, and The Homeplace of Lexington. Residents on impacted streets have received informative postcards via mail and yard signs have been placed at the entrances to the neighborhoods/pruning areas. Work was scheduled to begin as early as this week. If you have any questions about this service, please feel free to contact my office.
