Environmental Services, Reforest at Home is this morning!

Go get your free baby saplings to plant at home to help increase Lexington’s Tree Canopy.

Several varieties available and guidance from arborists at each site if you don’t know which species is right for your yard.

At Jacobson they usually set up at Shelter 6 near Camp Kearney. I am unsure about locations at the other parks.

Go early because they often run out.

Yesterday, Ann, Ed, and myself from Friends of the Parks attended the Watershed Summit at BCTC to hear about successful watershed restoration and water quality improvement projects in our community.

We learned about potential grant opportunities and new technology related to tree planting data collection among many other things from the wonderful speakers.

It was put on by WaterwaysLex 501(c)3 and led by my work colleague, Mr. John Pike, P.E. and the other board members.

John is a Water Resources Engineer for Palmer Engineering and when not working, volunteers his time with this organization and several others all focusing on waterways in our community.

*Most streams in Kentucky are impaired, meaning polluted. We write grants and implement water quality projects with our nonprofit’s to improve water quality in Lexington.

Ed, Ann and I were busy discussing stormwater grants and I forgot to get a photo of the three of us.

Friends of Jacobson Park is hosting a few volunteers for a day of service tomorrow to honor MLK through service to our community. 1-3PM

Dress warm, and even 30 minutes of your time can make a difference in our community.

We have a lot of trash that washes in the park in this area, and in winter it is accessible and not under water.

Join us at 1 at Camp Kearney!
