Today we recognize Women's Veterans Recognition Day, which commemorates the day in 1948 when President Harry S. Truman signed the Women's Armed Services Integration Act into law, granting women the right to serve as permanent members of the U.S. military.

Mayor Hazel Livingston was honored to attend a ceremony yesterday at the Village at Southlake, where three women were honored, two who served in our armed forces and one who served in the Red Cross.

Quilts of Valor were presented to Susan Amalie Smith and Carlene Lorick by the Quilts of Valor Foundation, whose mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war.

Also honored was Miriam Medley, who was presented with the Living Legend Proclamation in 2024 for her service as a Red Cross Recreational Worker for serving in Vietnam.

This year, Governor Henry McMaster set aside today, June 12th, 2026, as a day for all people to honor military women and the historical legislation that granted them the right to serve as a permanent, regular member of the United States Armed Forces.

UPDATE 5—The boil water advisory has been lifted and the water is safe to drink. We appreciate your patience during this time.

UPDATE 4—Water has been restored, but a boil water advisory is in place for the affected homes. A notice has been placed on each door where this applies. Homeowners will be notified once the boil water advisory is lifted.

UPDATE 3—Utility crews are still working on the repair. It’s expected to take another few hours. Please be cautions when driving through the work zone for everyone’s safety. We’re doing all we can to get water restored as soon as possible.

UPDATE 2—Water has been shut off for the following streets and they will be without water for the duration of repairs, followed by a boil water advisory:
• Summer Duck Trail
• Landing Drive
• W Sparrowood Run
• E Sparrowood Run
• Mallard Lakes Drive (only between Sunset Blvd and Sparrowood Run)

UPDATE—Water leak update & preparation for the water shut off: the following streets will be without water for the duration of repairs, followed by a boil water advisory:
• Summer Duck Trail
• Landing Drive
• W Sparrowood Run
• E Sparrowood Run
• Mallard Lakes Drive (only between Sunset Blvd and Sparrowood Run)

We estimate that 81 customers will be without water. The contractor and Town are beginning to stage equipment; a follow up post will be made just prior to water being turned off.

Original post—Town of Lexington Utilities is aware of a ruptured water main on Mallard Lakes Drive. Conditions require the Town to utilize a sub-contractor to complete the repairs. The repair work will begin once all utilities have been marked. The work will require that the water main be shutdown, resulting in an outage for many customers in the area. The Town will provide updates as the situation progresses.

What a wonderful turnout for our first Story Time in the Park of the year with Mayor Hazel Livingston! 💛📚

Lexington County Garden Club joined us to plant begonias with the little ones, and we loved watching those tiny hands dig in the dirt and learn all about caring for their very own plants. 🌱🌼

We hope to see you on Tuesday, June 16th at 10:30am at Azalea Amphitheater for our next Story Time! 🗓️

Heads up, Lexington! 📢
