VOLUNTEERS~At this time our volunteer staff positions are full The West Davidson Food Pantry was established by a group of churches in the West Davidson Area in the summer of 2008 with the goal of helping feed and clothe people in the West Da
vidson Area who had hit difficult financial situations and who needed additional help to make it through each month. Approximately clients families who have retired or disabled people on fixed incomes are served on a continuous monthly basis. An additional 75+ families are served on a three on a three month rotation in which they received help for three months and then rotate off the list and are replaced by new clients for a three month period. all clients may re-apply after being off the list for three months if their needs are still great enough to qualify. Recipients are picked on a needs basis with preference given to the elderly, disabled, and people with children living at home, followed by a preference given to families facing financial difficulties for the first time. We have a Clothing Closet which distributes free clothing and home goods to those in need in our community. In 2012, we expanded our coverage area to include the entire 27295 and 27299 zip codes. (UPDATE: We no longer can allow those needing COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS to work at the Pantry. This is due to us working directly with students under the age of 18.) In 2012, our goal is to continue to help as many people in Western Davidson county as possible. We will continue to work in cooperation with the Civics classes at West Davidson High School in assisting their students in gaining experience in community volunteer work, which helps us, the student, and the educational system. We seek and receive support from the area schools, civic clubs, and individuals in addition to the churches that support us on a regular schedule. We continue weekly to serve Reeds, Tyro and Churchland Elementary school students that are in need of food for home each weekend. We provide those students with snacks and meals that will help them get through each weekend. We also work with the guidance counselors from all 5 of our local schools and have provided a place for the community Angel Tree Ministry to be conducted. Through this service we are helping children to receive a Christmas that would not have had any. We are also providing up to 375 free Christmas meals to not only our regular clients, but to other families that are in need in the schools system. We have also partnered with Churchland Baptist to serve the elderly and disabled in the Churchland community. We have learned that the majority of those living in that area are surviving below poverty level and cannot make ends meet. This has been a huge success. We are here to help!! Churches involved:
