A request from the City of Lexington. The City is asking property owners to perform diligence when selecting a contractor for any type of work project that requires digging. This request is made with safety top of mind, for both the residents and the community. Please ensure that the company doing work has a city license, is insured and has pulled all required permits. Even if you are doing the work yourself, make sure you familiarize yourself with the City’s expectations. Regarding digging, please make sure that all utility lines have been properly marked before work begins. If you have questions regarding building projects, please contact Tom White, Building Official. Thank you for helping keep the community safe.

Please be weather aware as the City of Lexington is in a 2 out of 5 prediction area (yellow) for severe weather today. Please use all available warning resources such as weather radios, cell phone apps, local weather station forecasts, etc. Never rely on outdoor tornado sirens to receive warnings while indoors and while sleeping. As a reminder, outdoor tornado sirens are designed to warn individuals who are outdoors during severe weather. Stay safe!

Strong to severe storms across northern MO will continue moving east through the morning. The main hazards are damaging winds and large hail. Additional severe storms are possible this afternoon with all hazards possible.

UPDATE: Gas line repaired. 1600 block of Main Street. The evacuation from 16th Street to 17th Street has been cancelled. Residents in this area can return to their homes.

An alert from the Police Department. A gas line was struck in the 1600 block of Main Street. Residents have been evacuated and the street is shut down. Please avoid this area.

A weather alert from the City. Current weather reports from various sources are indicating that there is a chance of severe storms with damaging winds, hail and spin up tornadoes possible tonight. Also, there is a chance for area flooding as well. Then the weather shifts to a heat advisory for Tuesday and Wednesday. As with any severe weather, stay alert and updated through local media reports.
