This morning, members of the Lexington County Fire Service and Lexington County EMS participated in remembering the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The Remembrance Service took place at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

Over the past few days, our Lexington County firefighters have also participated in the LCFS Burpee Challenge, Tunnel to Towers, the First Responders Recognition at Saint Stephens Lutheran Church, Patriots Day in the Town of Chapin, at Piney Woods Elementary, and the First Responder Recognition by Dunbar Funeral Home.

Across our County, we are thankful to each of you that have taken the time to honor our first responders! We will 🇺🇸

On September 11, 2001, first responders answered a call unlike any our nation had ever known. They climbed stairwells. They searched for survivors. They ran toward danger while helping thousands of others reach safety.

Among the 2,977 lives lost that day were 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers and 37 Port Authority Police Department officers.

Twenty-five years later, each of us at Lexington County remembers their courage and honors every person whose life was taken that day.

September 11 remains a powerful reminder of the commitment behind the uniform: when the call comes, we answer.

Today, we remember the fallen, their families and the first responders who gave everything in service to others.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Today, with our Council members, county staff, friends and community members, we are excited and proud to celebrate the ribbon-cutting at the new Lexington County Coroner's Office!

Located at Red Bank Crossing, the new office gives Coroner Margaret Fisher and her staff more room to conduct investigations, meet privately with families and securely manage evidence and other sensitive materials.

The County renovated 10,795 square feet of county-owned, existing commercial space for the new office. The facility includes an autopsy suite, anthropology lab, body cooler and freezer, evidence-processing areas, secure storage and a secure sallyport. It also includes offices for the coroner and deputy coroners, a multipurpose room, family meeting spaces and a children’s room.

Congratulations to our Lexington County Employee of the Quarter, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department's Public Information Officer, Captain Adam Myrick!

Captain Myrick was selected for the honor in recognition of his exceptional leadership and steadfast commitment to public service. For nearly a year, he and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department communications team took on the additional responsibilities of the County Public Information Officer —supporting departments countywide while continuing to lead communications for the Sheriff’s Department.

Since 2015, Adam has served as the Public Information Officer for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. In this role, he oversees media relations, crisis communication and issues management, along with the agency’s video productions, social media strategy and digital content.

Adam earned the Executive Public Information Officer certification from the National Disaster & Emergency Management University in 2018 and was designated a Credentialed Public Information Officer by the Center for Public Safety Excellence's Commission on Professional Credentialing in 2024.

Adam lives in Lexington with his wife and their two children.

CLOSURE: The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close the I-26 eastbound Exit 129 ramp to US 2...

CLOSURE: The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close the I-26 eastbound Exit 129 ramp to US 21 as part of a new ramp alignment project beginning Friday, September 11.

The ramp closure will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and remain in place until 6 a.m. on Monday, September 14.

DETOUR: During the closure, a signed detour will be in place. Drivers traveling eastbound on I-26 will exit at Exit 136, enter I-26 westbound, and return to Exit 129 to access Highway 21.

All other ramps at the I-26/Highway 21 interchange will remain open to traffic.

CAUTION: SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to crews when driving through the work zone.
