HOPE of Southern Maryland H.O.P.E provides a telephone hotline for people requesting assistance with emergency needs for food, fuel, rent, electricity, prescriptions & other essentials.

H.O.P.E which stands for Helpers Overcoming Problems Effectivity is an incorporated non-profit charitable organization supported by local churches, community organizations, United Way and private donations. .

General information

H.O.P.E. is made up of volunteers from any member churches and the community. Volunteers answer the H.O.P.E. Hotline phones, take the necessary information, and help find the resources to meet the need. Volunteers also work in the food pantry and give out food to the needy clients and are available to take calls during our hours of operation.

What is H.O.P.E?

H.O.P.E. stands for helpers Overcoming Problems Effectively, is an incorporated non -profit charitable organization supported by local churches, community organizations, United Way and private donations. H.O.P.E. was formed in 1986 with the goal of bridging the gap between the needy and those churches and people who want to help them.

How does H.O.P.E. Work?

Since 1990 over 46,900 households totaling more thank 187,000 needy people have been helped with over 1,033,000. This money has help pay for electricity, fuel oil, rent, food, medicine and other emergency needs. Over 34,000 households of the total have been fed through the Church of Ascension Food pantry.
