The waste and sludge's removed during treatment are stabilized in aerobic digesters and are dewatered in sand drying beds. Final disposal of the stabilized and dried biosolids is by land application. Plant performance is monitored by automatic influent and effluent composite samplers. The District began providing sewer collection and treatment on October 18th, 1993. Do not pour hazardous items down the drain, or outside on the ground. Such as gasoline, paint, paint thinners, unneeded medicines, pesticides and motor oil. They kill beneficial organisms and contaminate water. Toxic materials are either poisonous or cause long term illness (such as cancer). By working together, we can make a difference!

Did you know that all the water we use is recycled? Just from SHRWD’s customers, our average daily flow is 300,000 gallons of wastewater. Being connected to a sanitary sewer system means that everything that goes down your drains from your home is pumped through a sealed pipe to the wastewater treatment plant in Lewisville to go through the treatment process. It takes 12-15 hours to complete the wastewater treatment process and allow the clean water back into Flatrock River. Untreated wastewater poses a serious threat to public health and the environment. Each of us has a responsibility to do our part!

During heavy rain events, the influent flow to the treatment plant increases. At times, it will increase to the point of overloading the collection system and treatment plant. It causes unnecessary wear and tear on equipment. SHRWD is a sanitary sewer system and the plant is not designed to treat stormwater. There are several ways to assist with this problem. Sump pumps and gutters should not be hooked to or draining into the sewer system. The Sewer Use Ordinance prohibits sump pumps and basement drains from being connected to the sanitary sewer system. If you have sump pumps or drains connected to the system, please have them disconnected immediately or contact the District office for assistance. Broken or missing cleanout caps also allow storm water to enter the system. Replacing broken or missing cleanout caps will reduce stormwater inflow. If you have a broken or missing cleanout cap, please contact the District office and we will be happy to assist you with the repair. Addressing these simple things will greatly decrease the storm water inflow problem. This will enable SHRWD to reduce the wear and tear on equipment and keep maintenance costs down, thereby benefiting the customer and SHRWD. If you have questions or would like further information concerning this please feel free to contact us!
