September is Su***de Prevention Month. 💜

There are far too many families who know the grief that follows a su***de. It is a grief I understand personally and have witnessed professionally. They are often left with questions they may never have answers to.

The grief that follows su***de can be incredibly complicated. There can be guilt, confusion, and so many what ifs. The last thing anyone should have to carry on top of that is shame or judgment. How someone died should never overshadow how they lived, and a family should never be defined by the manner of their loved one’s death.

Su***de prevention starts with being willing to talk honestly about su***de, even when it’s hard. It means listening without judgment, taking people seriously when they say they are struggling, recognizing that we don't always know what someone else is going through, and making it okay to say, “I need help.”

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we remember the lives lost to overdose and the loved ones forever changed by those losses.

We stand with those who are struggling, those in recovery, and those who continue to show up for the people they love.

Addiction does not discriminate, and there should never be shame in needing or asking for help. 💜🖤

Loss changes us, and we each carry grief in our own way. Give yourself grace, and give it freely to others. Remember that some of the heaviest things we carry cannot be seen. 💜🖤

We had a wonderful time participating in our first National Night Out!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table. We loved answering your questions, sharing more about what the Coroner's Office does, and seeing so many children participate in our activities and proudly earn their **Junior Deputy Coroner** badges.

A special thank you to the organizers, volunteers, first responders, community partners, and everyone who helped make National Night Out possible. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful community event.

We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year!
