JBB*H annual campout and Arch Coulee ride was held June 20-22 in the Little Belts. We camped at the Middle Fork Trailhead as usual. We had a small group this year due to various reasons but was a success non the less. In spite of a not so pleasant weather forecast, it was a great weekend. The Saturday ride up Arch Coulee was somewhat chilly but not unpleasant. Thanks once again to Gregg Morse for doing the grilling honors. The trail was cleared on the previous Wednesday just in time for the event.

TOTAL SUCCESS! WE MORE THAN DOUBLED OUR GOAL. THANKS GO ALLTHE CUSTOMERS, YOU HAD US HOPPING! THANKS TO ALL THE DONORS, SOME CHAPTER MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS SUPPORTERS. We’re hoping to make this an annual event to fund our scholarship. Our end game is to involve more youth in using and maintaining our trails. For the second year, we have had excellent applications.

JBB*H CHAPTER had another entertaining Christmas party! Candy Phillips managed to gain possession of this year’s prized gift which was a tall boot scraper welded by Gregg Morse. This, and the Himalayan salt brought by Cheryl Savinelli were sought after. Thanks to Zion Lutheran Church for the use of your room. Picture cred to Rose Dover for some of the pictures.

JBB*H display for Bright Country Nights at the Fergus Ciunty Fairgrounds in Lewistown. Tonight is the last night so drive through if you haven’t made the trip. Thanks to Deb Hayes Ferdinand who refreshed the horse made several years ago by Brad Fogle and Gregg Morse. Deb also replaced the “kid” and added the little cowboy. The cowgirl was modeled after this picture of my great-grandaughter, Kinley Young, who is the daughter of Merle and Devyn Young.

JBB*H Chapter ride up Arch Coulee in the Little Belts on Saturday, June 15th, was a success once again. Eight of us braved the weather, packed our slickers but didn’t need them so it was a great ride. Not too cold nor too hot. Of course our pot luck was fun as usual, always lots of good food with Gregg Morse doing the barbecue honors. A few more showed up for the meal. Dick Bucsis and I camped Thursday at Middle Fork Trailhead, got the tent laid out then John & Linda Westby helped put it up when they arrived on Friday. The chapter has owned this tent for many years but it hasn’t been put up recently and the frame got misplaced. Dick and Henry measured it, then Dick built us a new frame. He said he’s lost sleep for two months worrying about the design. His plan and design were executed perfectly! Thank you everyone.

JBB*H had our first trail clearing of the year on Wednesday, May 22nd. Lime Kiln Trail, a non-motorized trail, is in the Judith mountains near Lewistown. John & Linda Westby, our trail work chairpersons, wanted to ensure the trail was clear for the Memorial weekend when the trail has heavy use by hikers, bikers and horseback riders. Thanks to some hikers and bikers who cleared several small trees, the trail was clear except for one 22” which they saved for us. John was able to cut through it with the chapter’s battery saw. At the moment there is a heavy rain so we might have to make another quick trip.

Once again JBB*H entertained youngsters with the ever popular stick horse rodeo during the Montana Winter Fair located in Lewistown. Chair Leonard Francis also served as emcee. We were honored to have the Montana Saddle Club 2024 Queen, Honora Tetrault from Helena, serve as our arena director. Honora gave information on the Saddle Club Association, then guided the contestants through the three events, barrel racing, calf roping and steer do***ng. We had 38 contestants with at least 80 spectators. Singing the National Anthem were two amazing sisters, Riley Jenner, age 2, and Reagan Jenner, age 4!
