Greetings,

I recently received a fairly long, curse filled rant on our department voicemail. The person leaving the message was upset that an officer sat stationary in their neighborhood for what they described as nearly 30 minutes. The caller went onto to say that we should have better things to do than sit stationary “doing nothing” and they could help us “find more important things to be doing”.

As a result of this stationary patrol, in a well populated neighborhood in Washington Township, the officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving 12 mph over the posted speed limit. As a result of the traffic stop, the officer arrested the driver for OVI and the driver ultimately tested nearly twice the legal limit.

I am extremely grateful both as the Chief of Police and as an Indian Lake resident to know that we have excellent officers serving Washington Township, the Village of Lakeview and Logan County as a whole. I encourage you to thank an officer the next time you see one. The job they do day in and day out is selfless and I find their courage to do it remarkable.

Moral of the story, ask before you assume.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Chief Michael Thompson

SRO Brenner has big future plans for Indian Lake Safety Town!

Interested in sponsoring? Contact details for SRO Brenner are on the flyer.

Indian Lake families — we are excited to officially kick off Indian Lake Safety Town!

For years, we’ve had a strong Safety Town curriculum teaching pedestrian safety, traffic signals, bike rules, and real-world decision making. Now, we’re working to build a permanent, hands-on Safety Town space where our students can practice these skills in a realistic, kid-sized town designed just for them.

This project will include:
🚸 Real road layouts and intersections
🚦 Working traffic control devices
🏫 Mini community buildings
🚴 Safe spaces to practice pedestrian & bike safety

As your School Resource Officer and a proud Indian Lake graduate, this project means a lot to me. Our goal is simple:

Give every Indian Lake child the opportunity to learn, practice, and build confidence in traffic and pedestrian safety — in a space built just for them.

We’ll be partnering with local businesses and community members to make this vision a reality. If you’re interested in sponsoring a building or contributing to the project, message me directly for more information.
