It's Mountain Devil Monday, and our FINAL MDM of the deployment! This week we're featuring CPT Silver Beaty from Helena, MT!
CPT Beaty wears two hats as both the Detachment Commander as well as the MKAB and NSTA Provost Marshal. She has been responsible for the oversight of all law enforcement activities at both locations for the duration of the deployment. She brings experience as a family member of deployed Soldiers, like her husband and little brother, as well.
π’ How long have you been with the unit? How long in the military total?
π‘ "I joined the unit in 2017 as the Law and Order Operations Officer, and took Command in October of 2019. I've proudly been part of the Montana Army National Guard for 13 years."
π’ What do you do on the civilian side?
π‘ "I used to work as a MTARNG Project Manager. I'll be headed to the University of Montana as a ROTC associate professor when I get home."
π’ Who has been the strongest influence in your life?
π‘ "I have several incredible influences: my mother and father have taught me how to be independent. My husband and children have taught me selfless love and service. My mentors, COL(P) Renea Dorvall, LTC Janel Wiese, and MAJ Lindsey Gerheim, have taught me how to be a strong woman in the military. Also shoutout to my enlisted mentors, 1SG Steph Rosario and SFC Myeshia Boston!"
π’ What were your goals for this deployment?
π‘ "My goals were to learn and grow as a leader as well as get to a better physical, mental, and spiritual state of health. I believe I've been very successful, but also know I'm always a work in progress."
π’ What do you do on your down time here?
π‘ "I have my typical Netflix binge shows (shoutout to Seinfeld!), but for the most part I try to spend my time connecting with the people and leaders around me. I've also had the opportunity to explore several countries to include Romania, Bulgaria, France, Greece, and Israel."
π’ Who is getting you through this deployment?
π‘ "No matter how rough or long the days get, my Provost Sergeant, SFC McNary, has always been there when I've needed him most. Texting and calling my kids and my husband is always the best part of my day."
π’ Any family members you want to recognize?
π‘ "My incredible and supportive husband, Steve, who's not only been on this side of a deployment TWICE, but is now holding down the fort back home with three young children. McKenna, Maxon, and McKoy are my driving force to be the best I can be as a mother, Soldier, and leader. Also my mom, Joey, and my dad, Jay, have been nothing but completely supportive of my time in Command as well as this deployment. I couldn't do this without ALL of their neverending love and support."
π’ If you won the lottery, what's the first thing you would do?
π‘ "I'm a weirdo. I'd pay off our house so we were debt free, put a large chunk towards our church, The Well, then donate the rest to su***de prevention programs and other veteran-centered organizations like Impact Montana."
