Trek Across Maine has made its way to Lewiston-- we currently have officers assisting with traffic! Stay safe out there trekkers!

🚴‍♀️ HEADS UP, ANDROSCOGGIN COUNTY! 🚴‍♂️
The Trek Across Maine will be traveling through Androscoggin County tomorrow (Friday - June 19th)!

Thousands of cyclists participating in the Trek Across Maine will pass through portions of Lisbon, Lisbon Falls, and Lewiston before finishing Day 1 at Bates College.

Cyclists are expected to enter Androscoggin County in Lisbon via Bowdoin/Bowdoinham and will be traveling through:

📍 Lisbon and Lisbon Falls around midday and early afternoon
📍 Lewiston throughout the afternoon and early evening

Motorists should expect increased bicycle traffic along portions of local and state roads and are encouraged to:

✔ Watch for cyclists at intersections and on rural roads
✔ Pass only when safe to do so
✔ Be patient and allow extra room
✔ Allow extra time for traveling

🚧Heads up! 🚧 Lewiston Public Works will be replacing the old flagpoles at City Hall, Pine Street from Lisbon to Park Streets. The project will disrupt parking and the road from Tue., June 16 to Thu., June 18. 🏛️

The old poles are expected to come down Tue., June 16 and the new flagpoles will be installed by Thu., June 18. 🛠️

A few parking spaces on the Pine Street side will be posted as 'No parking' while crews complete the work. 🚗🚫 Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

By the end of the week, City Hall will have brand-new flagpoles and fresh flags flying proudly. ✨

Early this morning, June 14, 2026, at approximately 2:40 a.m., Lewiston Police officers patrolling the downtown area heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of Webster Street.

Officers immediately responded and located a female outside 89 Webster Street suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as 23-year-old Leyla Isaak.

Officers provided emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived. Isaak was subsequently transported to Central Maine Medical Center, where she is being treated for injuries that are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information is being released at this time. Anyone with information regarding this shooting is encouraged to contact Det. Kaden Tozier [email protected] or submit an anonymous tip through the department's tip line 513-3194.

Please be advised that Bates College will be conducting a fireworks display this evening as part of a scheduled event. Residents in the surrounding area may hear loud noises during these times. Fire crews have been notified and will be on standby.

On June 9, 2026, the Lewiston Police Department with assistance from Homeland Security investigations and the Androscoggin County District Attorney's Office conducted an undercover operation targeting individuals who were in Lewiston looking to engage people for the purpose of Prostitution. As a result of this undercover operation 9 men were arrested and charged with Engaging a Person for Prostitution, Class E. They were all transported to the Androscoggin County Jail where they were processed.

On 06/10/2026 at about 10:30 am officers were on Walnut St conducting an investigation into suspicious activity. As the officers were conducting their investigation, a juvenile male fled from them on foot. The officers chased the suspect and were able to quickly apprehend him. As the officers caught the male, a .45 caliber pistol fell from the suspect's waistband. Officers were able to secure the suspect and the firearm without any injuries. Once he was under arrest, officers searched the suspect and located a second firearm, a .380 pistol. Both pistols were loaded at the time officers recovered them.

The 16 year old was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Class D and Refusing to Submit to Arrest, Class E. The male was also connected to a separate open investigation. As a result of that open investigation by the Lewiston Police Department, he was also charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Class A. The male was transported to Long Creek Juvenile Development Center in South Portland where he is being held.
