Vote Cory Burns Marshall county commissioner District 6 This page is dedicated to campaigning for the county election in August, 2026.

04/09/2026

As of recently, there has been a lot of going back and forth between the Veterans committee (which is made up of several county commissioners) and the VSO- (Veterans service officer) Brandon Cannon.

The chair of the Veterans Committee has called a meeting at the Courthouse annex on 9 April at 6pm. (Tonight).

Since initially learning of this meeting, I have had the opportunity to speak to 3 current County commissioners, as well as have a sit down meeting with VSO Brandon Cannon.

I want to invite not only Veterans, but the general public to this event tonight. I am walking in open minded as I believe in full, not bias transparency.

However, I do have questions I need to ask, and explanations need to be given. Not just for myself, but as a candidate for District 6, and as a man who plans to sit on the Veterans committee if the opportunity is available when/If I am elected.

Just a few takeaways from my research.

-Aside from Dean Delk, there are no Veterans on this committee. (This is by research, please correct me if I'm wrong)

-According to the VSO Brandon, in the last 4 years, only 1 county commissioner out of 18 has walked in his office. That's 17 commissioners who have no idea what goes into this job. (Once again, by research and please correct me if I'm wrong)

One thing I can say loudly, is Veterans do not get nearly the amount of time, respect, or benefits that they deserve. They shouldn't have to fight for care and attention now, because that fight in itself, is why they are veterans. The Veterans committee should be one of the most proud committees to sit on, and one that should 100 percent back their VSO- Thru and thru.

I'm hoping with the support of our veterans, as well as our county, we can all work together to rectify a solution to our disagreements alike. 1 man currently works to take care of over 2,200 recorded veterans in Marshall county. Once you truly understand how big of a deal that is, you'll understand the strain this office is under.

please make it a point to be in Attendance for this meeting.

Over the past few days, there has been a lot of conversation about political signs along our state roads. Like several others, I was contacted and asked to move my sign on Highway 99. Well… told to, not asked.

That’s fine. Rules are rules.

However, when you first say “all political signs” must be removed and then backtrack to say “small yard signs are okay,” that creates a contradiction. It also puts someone in the position of picking and choosing which signs stay and which ones go. That’s not a good place to be when you’re asking people to remove signs they paid for while allowing others to remain.

Everyone deserves the same treatment.

I’ve seen, and read the memorandum from the state of Tennessee dated 19 October 2020, but it wasn’t enforced in 2024. Now suddenly it appears we are picking and choosing when and how it applies.

If we’re going to enforce rules, they should be enforced fairly and consistently for everyone. That’s something I strongly believe in. The small man should receive the same treatment as the big man and vice versa.

There is also no need to downplay the visibility of names and people running for office. Yes, social media is powerful, but many voters still learn about candidates simply by seeing campaign signs around the community. I have personally seen names and searched them, and I've truly gotten to know many people that way.

The bigger takeaway for me is this: this election season we are seeing more people step forward and run for office than we have in a long time. In my opinion, that’s a great thing. When citizens care enough to get involved, it shows they want to have a voice in the future of our county. They want to help.

And the truth is, a lot of people across Marshall County have questions about where we’re headed. Lots of questions. And admin is constantly dancing around the questions with no answers.

This election will bring Marshall County a new Sheriff, a new County Mayor, and hopefully 18 County Commissioners who can work together with the Mayor to form strong committees. New minds, new faces, and new solutions to old problems.

Our county is growing quickly. Growth can be positive, but only if it’s managed responsibly. We must make sure our infrastructure keeps up, whether that’s water availability, schools, emergency services, or support for our Volunteer Fire Departments, which already rely heavily on donations to operate.

These are the issues that matter far more than where someone places a campaign sign. Yet right now, that’s what we’re having to debate. This whole ordeal county wide is complaint driven.

As you know, Running for office isn’t about who can put up the most signs. It’s about who is willing to step up, listen to the people, and work toward real solutions for our community.

If I’m fortunate enough to earn your vote, I will work hard to represent the people of District 6 and do what’s best for Marshall County as a whole.

The future of our county deserves leadership that focuses on the issues that truly matter. I’m just a blue-collar man who loves serving his country and his community, and I believe I have the skills and work ethic to help move our county forward.

Thank you for your time.

I have said it since day 1....Michael is probably the most qualified candidate out of every single commissioner running, myself included. He's a numbers guy, and he's smart. He will find things that are not accurate, and bring them to light. I hope to work with this man in the future.

Also, I could not have said this better myself. This is one of the most crucial elections that this county has seen, and that's when the pushback will start. Some people do not want the much needed change. Change that needs to happen.

District 5.... you NEED this man on the commission.

District 6..... I will work tirelessly for you.

Michael as well as myself will work for the entire county. Everyone matters.

This past week has been busy to say the least. It seems that TDOT has received complaints about political signs being erected next to the state roads. This has been a practice for many years. I have given this much thought and realize that people are going to complain about their own unhappiness. There are many new people running for office this year, specifically county commissioner. Our community should be happy to see new people wanting to get involved with running our county government.

Ask yourself are you happy with the way that our county is heading? I hope your answer is no, not really. Our current local administration, city and county, have allowed uncontrolled growth to happen over the past few years. They have allowed subdivisions to be constructed with no thought of what it will cost in the future. How many new houses need to be built per year? Do we need 50, 100, 1000, or more? The more houses that are built, the more stress we put on our current infrastructure. Number one concern should be our water situation. Our current administration has allowed out of town builders to purchase all of the water taps only to allow our local builders to only receive 5 per year. Did you know that if you wanted to build a house on your own property that you could not get a water tap? This is a sad situation. Our own neighbors, our own family, our own people cannot get access to a water tap.

Water is not the only infrastructure issue. How about our schools? If we build a 1,000 houses, this could put an extra 2,000 students in our small school system. Our teachers are already asked to do too much as it is. Our buildings cannot handle this amount of new students.

What about our EMS? We are already operating on a skeleton crew as it is. This will put an extra strain on what already is a problem. What about our fire departments, specifically our Volunteer Fire Departments. Our VFD are struggling to keep their doors open. If our VFD close their doors, you may or may not be able to purchase home owner's insurance. If you are able to purchase home owner's insurance, it will be extremely high.

So back to the sign problem. We were told that political signs could not be next to the state roads. You should take note that all other signs are allowed. Yard sale, estate sale, home sale, garage sale signs galore are all over the place. At least I can agree with one thing, these are all FOR SALE signs.

If elected commissioner, I will not be FOR SALE. So it is fitting that they asked me to move my signs that were in front of my business because I will fight not only for those in District 5 but I will fight for every person in Marshall County.

Remember if you want a change, then you have to elect people that want a change. New people bring new solutions.

My petition is turned in. Now it’s up to the people of District 6 to do their part and vote in the General Election on August 6th.

While acquiring signatures, I spoke with many people about a wide range of topics — from the most common questions regarding the rock quarry and its expansion, as well as Todd Warner and his illegal quarry (lake), to conversations about education, our schools, and how I would vote as our county continues to grow. We also discussed animal welfare and the future of the county shelter.

While I will continue to address these issues in detail, I want to clearly and confidently state the following:
1. I am against rock quarry expansion.
2. I am pro-education and pro-school development.
3. I am pro-animal resources and believe they need our support through proper funding and facilities.
4. I am pro Fire, EMS, and law enforcement.
5. I am pro-growth — following the proper channels and doing things the right way.

No one should receive special privileges because of their last name, and no one’s tactics should be overlooked because of their status in this county.

For District 6, I want to represent you proudly — and serve the entire county with integrity.

BIG NEWS!

Running for County Commissioner has been on my radar for a long time. My goal has always been simple: to listen, to learn, and to be a true voice for the people of my district.

This has never been about politics, and it’s certainly not about the paycheck that comes with the title.

While speaking of paychecks, if elected, for my first 12 months in office, I will donate my commissioner’s check every single month to a charity or organization right here in Marshall County. Each month, I will publicly share where that donation goes.

This allows me to serve our community while giving back in more ways than one, and to lead by action, not words.

On August 6th, remember to vote Cory Burns.

“Experience the Difference” is more than a slogan, it’s a lifestyle.

Good day everyone,

I wanted to share a brief update and some important information regarding my candidacy for District 6 County Commissioner.

Earlier in November, I announced my intention to run under the Republican Party. Because this is the first time our county has used a primary system in this election process, there have been several details that were unclear at the time.

After reviewing the requirements, I am currently one election away from becoming a bona fide Republican. As a result, I will officially be listed as an Independent in this upcoming election. Following this election cycle, I will meet the criteria to be considered a bona fide Republican.

What does this mean for voters?

1. During the Primary Election on May 5, my name will not appear on the ballot.
2. During the General Election on August 6, my name will appear on the ballot alongside Republican and Democratic candidates, listed as Independent.

While my official label will be Independent, I have always stood with Republican values, and I have always worked respectfully with Democrats as well. My loyalty has never been solely to a party, it has always been to the people.

My goal is simple: to represent everyone in District 6, regardless of political affiliation.

I look forward to meeting you, hearing your concerns, answering your questions, and earning your trust. I am ready to work, ready to listen, and ready to lead with integrity.

“Experience the Difference” is more than a business slogan for me, it is how I choose to serve.

Thank you for your support.
