Scouts and Sheriff’s Office Flag Raising Ceremony
On April 16th 2026, a remarkable flag-raising ceremony took place at the Union County Courthouse, celebrating America’s 250th birthday. Eleven scouts from Mifflinburg Troop 520, Lewisburg Troop 538, and Cub Scout Pack 3538 joined Union County Sheriff Scott W. Hahn and his deputies in this significant event. The ceremony not only honored the nation’s rich history but also fostered community spirit and pride.
The scouts, representing their troops, showcased their commitment to service and patriotism as they participated in raising the Stars and Stripes. This event is part of a broader initiative to commemorate the nation's Semiquincentennial, with various counties across Pennsylvania engaging in similar celebrations.
As part of this initiative, the flags raised during these ceremonies, including those from local counties, are set to travel to prestigious locations like the White House and the Smithsonian. This journey symbolizes the unity and values of the American spirit, showcasing the contributions of local communities to the nation’s history. The Westmoreland County "Don't Tread On Me" flag, for instance, will be featured in the Smithsonian’s “America’s Tapestry” exhibition, highlighting its historical significance.
The collaboration between the scouts and the sheriff’s office exemplifies the strength of community partnerships in honoring the past and inspiring future generations. Through these flag-raising ceremonies, participants not only celebrate their heritage but also contribute to a collective narrative that will be remembered for years to come.
