Did you hear!?πŸ“’ The Buffalo River, portions of the Duck River and tributaries will now have added protections, thanks to a new Scenic Rivers Bill that passed the Tennessee Legislature last month.
Thank you to Tennessee House Representative Pat Marsh and Senator Kerry Roberts for leading sponsorship of this bill. πŸ˜€

The new protections add safeguards that restrict mining, commercial timber harvest and landfill uses while allowing agriculture and other traditional rural activities to continue. This designation is an important step in protecting one of the most biologically diverse freshwater rivers in the world. The Duck is more than a statistic. It is a living system with natural flow and diverse habitats that support one of the richest collections of freshwater life anywhere in the world.

We are also grateful for Gov. Lee’s continued attention to the Duck River, including the creation of the Duck River Watershed Planning Committee, which has been working to support the long-term health of the entire watershed.

The Nature Conservancy has worked for more than 25 years to protect the Duck River, and we remain committed to safeguarding these waters alongside our partners. Learn more about our work in the Duck River watershed at https://nature.org/Tennessee?en_txn1=s_fbo.reg_sou.x.x.
