Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was founded in 1956 by Homer K. Moore as a means for transport for the residents of Wantagh and Levittown. We provide emergency care on our ambulances staffed with Advanced Life Support providers and are 9-1-1 responders. We have volunteers trained from CPR to the level of Paramedic providing emergency care to our communities. We are funded entirely thro

ugh donations from the communities and by soft billing your insurance for our services. We accept what your insurance pays. If you have no insurance, our services are free. As of January 2020, we are now 24/7 with in house crews to ensure a faster response time! We are proud to serve you and your family.

25 years later, we remember. 🇺🇸
Today, we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the brave men and women who ran toward danger to help others.
We especially remember Ex-Chief Richard H. Teuten and Captain Alan Hechtman, two members of our WLVAC family whose lives were forever changed by 9/11 and who later passed away from 9/11-related illnesses. Their dedication to service, their courage, and their sacrifice will forever remain a part of the history and heart of WLVAC.
We honor every first responder, volunteer, medical professional, and countless others who answered the call that day and those who continued the fight in the years that followed.
Twenty-five years later, their names are still spoken, their stories are still told, and their memories live on.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Today, Sergeant-at-Arms Scott Thompson and Ex-Chief/Chairman Stephen Grippi competed in the Long Island Celtic Festival & Highland Games and brought home some medals!

Last week, WLVAC had the opportunity to participate in National Night Out with the Nassau County Police Department’s 8th Precinct at Bethpage High School!
National Night Out is a great opportunity to bring neighbors, first responders, and local leaders together while strengthening the connection between our community and those who serve it.
Our crew had a great time giving ambulance tours, providing blood pressure screenings, chatting with those interested in joining WLVAC, sharing information about our upcoming events, and giving out some swag!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make it such a great night!

Last night, WLVAC Ambulances 294 and 292 responded to a motor vehicle accident on the Southern State Parkway.
Our in-house crews are available around the clock to respond when needed. Whether it’s the middle of the day or the middle of the night, our members—your neighbors and fellow community members—volunteer their time to answer calls throughout the communities we serve.

On Wednesday, the Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was proud to once again provide medical coverage for Shootout for Soldiers’ annual 24-hour lacrosse fundraiser at the Town of Hempstead’s Point Lookout Athletic Complex, alongside the Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department.
This year’s event raised an incredible $75,000 to support local U.S. veterans. We are honored to have been part of this amazing event for the past 6 years and look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come. It is a honor to stand beside those who support our nation’s veterans, and we can’t wait to be back again next year.

🐾☀️ At WLVAC, we care about our furry family members, too! As Long Island continues to experience dangerous heat through the holiday weekend, please take extra precautions to keep your pets safe.
💧 Make sure they always have access to fresh, cool water.
🏠 Keep pets indoors or in the shade during the hottest parts of the day.
🚗 Never leave a pet unattended in a vehicle — temperatures can become deadly in just minutes.
🐾 Check the pavement before walks. If it's too hot for your hand or bare feet, it's too hot for their paws.
🌡️ Watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or difficulty walking.
Our pets rely on us to keep them safe and comfortable during extreme weather. We'd love to see how you're helping your furry friends beat the heat today! Share your photos of your pets staying cool in the comments below. 🐶🐱💙

☀️🌡 🥵 It's getting dangerously hot out there! Extreme heat is expected across Long Island today and through the holiday weekend, with temperatures climbing into the 90s and heat index values making it feel even hotter. Hot weather can lead to serious heat-related illnesses.
🐾 🐱🐶Don’t forget to bring your pets indoors. Check on your neighbors. If you start to feel sick, make sure to get inside and contact 911 or your doctor if necessary.

🚫 Avoid strenuous activity. Avoid the sun when possible.
💦 Drink plenty of water – stay hydrated. Skip the alcohol and caffeinated drinks which dehydrate your body and alcohol may dull your perception of the actual temperature.
👕 Wear loose fitting /light colored clothing.
✔️ Check on neighbors that are elderly or have health/breathing problems
❌ NEVER leave anyone or pets in an unattended car, even for “a minute”. Even with the windows cracked open, interior temperatures can rise almost 20° F within the first 10 minutes. When leaving your car, check to be sure everyone is out of the car and do not overlook any children or pets that have fallen asleep.
🐱 Keep your pets indoors and their water bowls full. Watch your pets closely. Avoid walking dogs on hot asphalt, which could burn the pads of their feet.

☀️Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke:
•Heat Stroke: dizziness, very hot and dry skin with no sweat, nausea, confusion, and unconsciousness. Seek medical attention immediately, as heat stroke can be fatal);
•Heat Exhaustion: pale, clammy skin with profuse sweating, dizziness, fatigue, and sometimes abdominal cramping.

A big thank you to WLVAC AEMT Bill Pearson for representing the Wantagh-Levittown Volunteer Ambulance Corps at McKenna Elementary School’s First Responders Day!
The students had a great time exploring our ambulance, learning about the equipment we use, and discovering how EMTs and paramedics help keep our community safe every day. We always enjoy opportunities to educate and inspire the next generation while sharing the important role of emergency medical services. Thank you, Bill, for taking the time to make this a memorable experience for the students!
