Thank you for your service, Shawn Wilson!
A Well-Deserved Honor
Yesterday, Governor Greg Abbott honored Shawn Wilson with the Star of Texas Award, recognizing his courage, sacrifice, and service following the July 15, 2021, shooting in Levelland.
That day forever changed our department, our community, and law enforcement across the South Plains. Shawn was critically wounded in the line of duty, and Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Josh Bartlett made the ultimate sacrifice.
More than five years later, we have not forgotten the bravery displayed that day, the officers who answered the call, or the tremendous sacrifices made by Shawn, Josh, their families, and their fellow officers.
Although Shawn is no longer with the Levelland Police Department, he continues to make a lasting impact on our community and the law enforcement profession through his work teaching and helping prepare future officers at the South Plains College Law Enforcement Academy. His experience, resilience, and dedication continue to influence the next generation of law enforcement officers.
Sgt. Det. Ramirez and Chief O’Bryon also had the privilege of attending the ceremony for Shawn as he received this well-deserved recognition.
We are incredibly proud to see Shawn honored by the State of Texas for his service and sacrifice. His strength and perseverance in the years since that day continue to represent the very best of law enforcement.
Congratulations, Shawn, on this well-deserved honor. We are proud of you, and we will always remember Sgt. Josh Bartlett and the sacrifice he made.
