Weather Alert for Leonia Residents:

The National Weather Service has issued several weather alerts affecting Leonia and Bergen County. Residents are urged to stay informed and take the following precautions.

⚠️ Air Quality Alert
An Air Quality Action Day remains in effect through midnight Saturday night. Fine particulate pollution may reach unhealthy levels, particularly for sensitive groups including children, older adults, and individuals with asthma, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions.

What you should do:

- Limit prolonged outdoor activities if you are in a sensitive group.

- Keep windows closed when possible and use air conditioning if available.

- Reduce activities that contribute to air pollution, such as unnecessary vehicle use.

🌧️ Flood Watch
A Flood Watch is in effect from 10:00 AM today through late tonight.

Multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected, with rainfall rates of 1.5 to 2 inches per hour possible. Flooding may develop rapidly in:

- Low-lying and flood-prone areas

- Streets with poor drainage

- Small streams and creeks

- Urban roadways

Remember:

- Never drive through flooded roadways. Turn Around, Don't Drown.

- Monitor local conditions if you live in a flood-prone area.

- Secure outdoor items and prepare for possible travel delays.

⛈️ Hazardous Weather Outlook
Strong to severe thunderstorms are possible from late this morning through this evening.

Potential hazards include:

- Damaging wind gusts

- Frequent lightning

- Heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding

- An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out

If a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning is issued, seek shelter immediately in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.

FIFA World Cup Drone Guidelines!!
• World Cup venues and fan festivals are No Drone Zones.
• Flying drones near stadiums is illegal and dangerous.
• Violators will be prosecuted and penalties are severe.
• Leave your drone at home.
• Drones near stadiums? That’s a red card. If you fly illegally, you will be found and prosecuted.
• There will be severe consequences for reckless, careless, or criminal drone use, including fines upwards of $100,000, criminal charges, incarceration, and the confiscation of your drone.
• Safety is our goal. Every fan, every match. A massive multi-layered security plan that includes advanced anti-drone technology is in place to protect fans.

A Blizzard Warning is in effect from 1PM Sunday until 6PM Monday with heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches are possible with wind gusting as high as 50mph.

From the National Weather Service: “Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life threatening. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult to impossible.”

Downed power lines can be extremely dangerous and should always be considered “live”. To report hazards and other dangerous conditions, call 9-1-1. To report a power outage, call PSE&G at 800-436-7734,

To assist the Department of Public Works and their snow plowing operations, please remove all cars from the public roads. If you must park in the street, please follow all parking regulations including the alternate side of the street parking ordinance. For streets covered under the snow emergency ordinance (B.O. 194-9), all cars must be removed from the street to avoid being summonsed and towed.

Please plan ahead and move cars now before the snow falls. Municipal parking lots at Elm Place, Beechwood Place and the Public Library may be used during the storm.

The Ramadan Ceremony scheduled for Sunday at 4:30pm in the Leonia Senior Center has been postponed. More information will be sent out when it is rescheduled.

The Leonia Volunteer Fire Department is asking for your assistance during the storm. Please help clear snow from fire hydrants if possible. This will save valuable time in the event of an emergency.
