The Wieck Playground project is now complete. The ribbon cutting ceremony held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, was well attended by the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County, Town of Leonardtown officials, Playground Committee members, Recreation and Parks Board members, and citizens. MD DNR staff also visited the playground to view and document another successful partnership between the County, Town and State.

The new Wieck Playground at Miedzinski Park is now open! Some of the amenities include: fully accessible rubber safety surfacing; a one-of-a-kind, three story climbing tower; six different types of swings, one of which includes a zip line experience; lots of natural shade areas; and new fencing.

Save the date: the official ribbon cutting ceremony for the new park is scheduled for Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. and all are invited to attend.

Construction continues on the new Wieck Playground! Equipment installation is nearing completion and the rubber surfacing will be completed next week. Fencing, the entrance area and other finishing touches will wrap up the project in the very near future. Watch Facebook and or St. Mary’s County Government website for a ribbon cutting announcement; we hope to see you there!

Recent rains have slowed the project just a little. However, demo is complete and the new equipment is currently being installed.

There will be a free "last day to play event" at the playground on Friday, July 6, 2018 - more details to follow! Removal of the old play equipment is scheduled for July 9, 2018. If all goes as planned, installation of the new equipment is anticipated to begin July 23rd and last about three weeks. Please call the Dept. of Recreation and Parks at (301) 475-4200 ext. *1802 with questions.

After final community feedback and committee input was received, the plan for the new playground was finalized. The equipment has been ordered and it is anticipated the new equipment will be installed this summer.

The Playground Committee has been busy over the last few months researching and gathering public input for the project. A contract was recently awarded to Playground Specialists, Inc. for construction of the new playground and the Committee is reviewing designs. It is anticipated that construction will begin in late spring or early summer 2018.

The Wieck Playground Committee held its first meeting on August 8th and reviewed the project and parameters. It is anticipated that a public input meeting will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at 5:30 p.m., in the Chesapeake Building, 41770 Baldridge Street, in Leonardtown, MD.

Formal planning for the new playground is set to begin on Tuesday August 8th. A playground committee has been formed of interested citizens, R&P Advisory Board members and staff.

The committee members are excited about this project and look forward to getting started!
