🚁 The Lieutenant and the First Sergeant Went Airborne! 🚁

Lieutenant Rossignol and First Sergeant Ruth recently had the opportunity to trade four wheels for a few rotors and join the Maryland State Police - Aviation Command aboard Trooper 7 for a training flight!

The purpose of the flight went well beyond just getting an incredible view from above. As leaders at the Leonardtown Barrack, Lieutenant Rossignol and First Sergeant Ruth were able to gain a better firsthand understanding of Aviation Command’s capabilities, resources, and how Trooper 7 can be utilized during calls for service—knowledge they can now bring back and share with our Troopers.

During the flight, they participated in a training scenario involving the search for a simulated downed aircraft, followed by a simulated hoist mission on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. They also received a demonstration of Trooper 7’s advanced camera and search capabilities and learned more about the many ways Aviation Command can support Troopers working on the ground.

The goal is simple: the more our Troopers understand the resources available to them, the quicker and more efficiently we can put those resources to work when someone needs us. Opportunities like this allow our leadership to bring that knowledge directly back to the Barrack, better educate our personnel, and strengthen the coordination between patrol Troopers and our specialized units.

A huge thank you to Trooper Bender for coordinating this opportunity and to Sergeant Brice, TFC Heneghan, and the pilots for hosting the flight, sharing their expertise, and taking the time to show us firsthand just how valuable Aviation Command can be to our personnel and the communities we serve.

Bringing Real-World Experience to the Courtroom!

Corporal Ditoto of the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack was recently invited by State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling and Deputy State’s Attorney Alena Mosier to participate in a mock Driving Under the Influence (DUI) trial as part of the Maryland Institute for Prosecutors.

During the presentation, Corporal Ditoto took the stand and provided testimony, giving participating law students a firsthand look at the role law enforcement plays in the investigation and prosecution of DUI cases.

The Maryland Institute for Prosecutors provides law students interested in pursuing careers as prosecutors with a comprehensive three-day course designed to offer valuable, real-world insight into the criminal justice system.

It was a great experience, and we sincerely thank State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling and Deputy State’s Attorney Alena Mosier for inviting Corporal Ditoto and trusting him to assist with such an important presentation. We’re always proud to see our Troopers sharing their knowledge and experience with the next generation of criminal justice professionals!

🎒 SHOP WITH A COP – BACK TO SCHOOL!

On Saturday, August 8, 2026, Troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack teamed up with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and several other local agencies for Shop with a Cop – Back to School!

The day kicked off with donuts at the Wildewood Shopping Center before everyone loaded up for a police procession — lights and sirens included 🚔 — to the local Walmart! Once there, our Troopers had a great time helping some amazing kids pick out everything they needed to start the school year off right. 🎒 The day wrapped up with pizza at VFW Post 2632 and plenty of smiles all around!

It was an amazing day for our Troopers, the kids, and everyone involved. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year!

A huge THANK YOU to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office for organizing such a great event and continuing to include our Troopers! 💙
