Superintendent of Schools, Dr. J. Scott Smith, announces an administrative transfer at the Board of Education meeting on September 9, 2026.

Ms. Julia Steele will transfer from Principal, 12-month, at White Marsh Elementary School to Supervisor of Human Resources, 12-month, in the Department of Human Resources.

Ms. Steele’s transfer will become effective once a replacement has been secured.

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. J. Scott Smith, announces the administrative appointment made by the Board of Education at its meeting on September 9, 2026.

The Board appointed Ms. Christen Ganley as Supervisor of Instruction - Educational Technologies and Media, 12-month, in the Department of Accountability and Reporting. Ms. Ganley holds a Master’s Degree from Towson University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Carlow University. Ms. Ganley currently serves as an Instructional Resource Teacher, 11-month, at the Virtual Academy.

Ms. Ganley’s appointment will become effective on September 14, 2026.

👟 Help SMCPS students start the school year on the right foot!
The SMCPS Shoe Fund provides shoes to school-age children in St. Mary’s County Public Schools who need them and have limited financial resources. Requests are especially high at the beginning of the school year, but assistance continues throughout the year.
The Shoe Fund is supported entirely by community donations, and 100% of every contribution is used to purchase shoes for students.
Individuals, businesses, community organizations, and groups are all welcome to contribute. Donations can be made online through MySchoolBucks without creating an account.
Families who need assistance can also find shoe request forms in English and Spanish.
