A group of citizens and representatives from various organizations, appointed by the St. Mary's County Commissioners, with the goal of making our community a better place for people with disabilities and, by extension, everyone. The CoPD advises on and assists the County Commissioners with efforts to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The CoPD also participates in and organizes a variety of educational and awareness events and provides annual awards to individuals who demonstrate acceptance and full participation in county life. Mary’s County Government communicate via this Web site. Consequently any communication via this site (whether by a county employee or the general public) may be subject to monitoring and disclosure to third parties.

It’s back-to-school season! Our Center has curated a list of disability resources to help teachers, parents, and students prepare for a successful back-to-school season. The resources include strategies and guides for families of children with disabilities, information on adaptive tools and assistive technologies that can support students with disabilities in learning, and a list of local centers for parent information and resources to help parents participate effectively in their children’s education and development.

We also added a resource from the ADA National Network, “ADA Mini-Unit for High School Educators: Rights, Responsibilities, and the Reasons They Matter.” This collection of resources provides educators with tools to teach youth the basics of the ADA.
