Hey LV, a day by the pool, hot tub, or spa is meant for fun, but electricity and water can be a dangerous combination if proper safety precautions aren't followed.

🚨 Stay Safe Around Water:
✔️ Keep electrical appliances, extension cords, and chargers at least 6 feet away from the water.
✔️ Test GFCI (Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlets monthly—they help prevent electric shock.
✔️ Never handle electrical devices with wet hands.
✔️ Don't swim during thunderstorms. ⛈️
✔️ Have your pool, spa, or hot tub's electrical equipment inspected regularly by a qualified electrician.
✔️ Know how to shut off power in an emergency.

⚠️ Know the Warning Signs of Electric Shock:
• Tingling sensation
• Muscle cramps
• Feeling like you can't move or something is holding you in place

❗ If you think someone is being shocked in the water:
🚫 DO NOT jump in.
🔌 Turn off the power immediately if it is safe to do so.
🛟 Use a non-conductive rescue tool, such as a fiberglass rescue hook, to assist from a safe distance.
📞 Call 9-1-1 immediately.

Remember: If you feel an electrical shock while in the water, move away from the source and get out of the water as quickly as possible.

💙 Water safety includes electrical safety. A few simple precautions can save a life.

🐾❤️ Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day!

With heavy rain, flash flooding, and severe weather impacting our area, it's a great reminder to make sure every member of your family is included in your emergency plan, including your pets. 🐶🐱

❓ If you had to leave home in minutes...would your pets be ready too?

Here are a few simple ways to prepare:

🐾 Have a pet evacuation plan and know who will be responsible for each pet.
🏷️ Make sure collars, ID tags, and microchip information are up to date.
🔥 Help prevent accidental fires by blowing out candles, securing stove k***s, and keeping electrical cords out of reach.
🚪 Practice your family's emergency escape plan so everyone including your pets knows what to do.

❤️ Whether it's rising floodwaters, a house fire, or another emergency, your pets are depending on you to have a plan.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Leon Valley and surrounding areas until 12:45 p.m.
🕣 8:30 a.m. CDT Update: Showers and thunderstorms are moving generally northward across much of South Central Texas. Very heavy rainfall, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, and flash flooding are possible. Stay weather-aware this morning, and remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown!
Heavy rain has already produced 2–3 inches of rainfall, with another 1–2 inches possible. Flash flooding is occurring or expected across our area.
📸 These photos tell the story. The first image shows Poss and Evers Roads after the water had temporarily receded, leaving behind debris. About an hour later, the same area flooded again.
⚠️ Floodwaters can rise in minutes. A road that appears clear can become flooded in a very short time. Never assume it's safe just because the water has receded.
ℹ️ A message from City Manager Dr. Crystal Caldera: While some news reports mention the possibility of 10–20 inches of rain, those totals are not the forecast for Leon Valley. Current forecasts call for generally 2–6 inches of rainfall through Thursday, with isolated higher amounts possible if storms repeatedly move over the same area. Even so, just a few inches of rain in a short period can cause dangerous flash flooding, overwhelm drainage systems, and make roadways impassable.
🚫 Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways or around barricades. Barricades are in place for your safety, and conditions can change in minutes.
✅ Stay weather-aware by following National Weather Service updates.\
✅ Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.\
✅ Move to higher ground if flooding threatens your area.\
✅ Turn Around, Don't Drown.
