BREAKING NEWS: The D.C. Council just voted to fund and implement the open primaries portion of Initiative 83. That means that in 2028, close to 100,000 independent voters will be able to choose whether to vote in the primaries. Congrats to Lisa Rice and Grow Democracy DC!!!!!!!!!

"Past statewide runoffs have cost Georgia taxpayers as much as $75 million. Turnout in this year’s runoffs fell by 24% statewide – with several races falling by more than 60%. These high costs and low turnout are predictable problems that could have been prevented if Georgia used ranked choice voting (RCV)."

"The ranked choice voting discussion comes in Lafayette after a close race last year for four at-large seats on the City Council. Annmarie Jensen received 15.9% of the vote, incumbent Saul Tapia Vega received 15.8%, Adam Gianola received 14.4% and incumbent Crystal Gallegos received 12%."

In primaries, it is not unusual for the winner to have a low percentage of the votes. ensures over 50% of the vote is needed to win, while still encouraging many candidates to run!
