Subject: ASL Training (American Sign Language)

Members spent the evening learning the American Sign Language.

The training was led by Mr.Jim Calvert.

On a recent emergency scene our personnel ran into a small communications barrier when Mr.Calvert, who was on an active scene in our district. It was immediately clear to us after this call that we wanted to train together with Mr.Calvert to bridge the communication gap on future calls in our community.

Mr.Calvert was excited and eager to help us by coming to our fire station and teaching our members basic sign language, including basic emergency key words that would help us obtain the answers to questions that are often needed on scenes.

After completing the training tonight there is no doubt that our personnel are better prepared for future communications with those in our community who are hearing impaired.

Thank you Mr. Calvert for volunteering your time to help us!
