We’re excited to join the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association, Inc. at their 2026 convention and train show this weekend! We’ll be giving a presentation on the history of the restoration of the high-speed, experimental Roger Williams. In addition, we’ll be joined by Rapido Trains Inc. who’s announced preliminary plans to produce a museum quality model of the train set. They joined us earlier this summer to highlight the model. Check out their video below!

Our friends at Rapido Trains Inc. are producing a model of the high-speed, experimental train set “Roger Williams” that calls BSRM home. Built in 1956 for service between Boston and NYC, it was the railroad’s attempt at attracting passengers away from air travel and back to the rails.

The conditional order deadline for the HO Scale Roger Williams is September 15th!

In 1957, the New Haven took delivery of the _Roger Williams_, a complete six-car train set that consisted of Budd RDC cars with modifications for high-speed service into New York City. Named after the founder of Rhode Island, these RDCs featured end cars with a streamlined cab along with third rail electrical pickup shoes and small traction motors, allowing them to run into Grand Central Terminal under electric power.

HO Scale Roger Williams Features:

- FIRST TIME! As ready-to-run plastic model in ANY scale!
- Accurately designed from original blueprints
- Cab units features Rapido’s smooth, proven in-floor RDC drive system
- Intermediate cars are unpowered, but fully lit
- An insane level of underbody detail
- Separate grab irons and handrails installed at the factory
- Full interior detail
- MoPower capacitor for uninterrupted DCC power
- Suggested minimum radius: 22”

Remember, this is a conditional project! Reserve yours today through your dealer or direct today by September 15th to help make it a reality!

BSRM is excited to support the New Haven Railroad Historical and Technical Association, Inc. 2026 Convention & Train Show, being held September 11–13 in New London, Connecticut, with a presentation on the restoration of the Roger Williams.

An early predecessor to today’s Amtrak Acela, the Roger Williams was a unique, experimental high-speed trainset built for the New Haven Railroad for service between Boston and New York City. Today, surviving equipment from this remarkable train is being restored and preserved at BSRM.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support a fellow organization dedicated to preserving and sharing New England’s rich railroad heritage.
