The Science Club is Caldwell County's newest 4-H club! They met last week for the first time. Mr. Brad is demonstrating the circuit drawn on the white board. Each student made their own light bulb and tested it. They are following the Electricity 1 - Magic of Electricity (http://www.4-hmall.org/Product/electricity/06848.aspx) curriculum.

Do you love machines?

Steam power was important for the industrial & agricultural revolution. Before steam power, it was water, wind, animal, or human power. Steam power allowed for a huge advancement in productivity.

On Saturday, September 3 at 8:00am, you can take a step back in time and learn about this antique power form. Shane Ellison has a 1916 Baker steam traction engine. He will have it at the Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention. I have arranged for Shane to give Caldwell County 4-H youth a special introduction to steam power and his traction engine at 8:00am, while he takes us through the start-up process of building a fire in the engine and making the steam engine ready for work.

if you are interested in learning about steam engines and how they operate, this is a great opportunity. There are not many opportunities like this.

If you would like to attend this event on September 3, please contact Seth Nagy ([email protected] or 828-757-1290). You must provide your own transportation to the site, but I will make arrangements for you to get into the Fiddlers Convention for free. I hope you will be able to attend and see this century old machine and how it operates.

For directions to the Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention, visit (http://www.happyvalleyfiddlers.org/).
