Communities In Schools of Caldwell County Communities In Schools of Caldwell County THE OPPORTUNITY:

Communities In Schools of Caldwell County joins hands in need with hands that can help.

The solution to student underachievement and dropout crisis requires a commitment from all community members—parents, social service providers, business and civic organizations, local government, and educators. Communities In Schools of Caldwell County connects community resources with students and their families at the school site. CIS coordinates needed services so young people will stay in scho

ol, learn necessary life skills, graduate from high school, and be prepared to enter the world of work or post-secondary education. Caldwell County is dependent on an educated workforce to ensure economic growth and development. THE CHALLENGE:

Too many young people are failing in our public schools and consequently leave school without the skills needed to succeed in life. In the 2007-2008, school year, 22,000 students dropped out of North Carolina schools; 237 of those were in Caldwell County.

85% of juveniles involved with the court system are school dropouts.
82% of prison inmates are school dropouts. Schools alone cannot solve the diverse problems facing today’s youth.

Today, I had the honor of presenting Domanick Miller with the WLMS Character Builder of the Year Award. ♥️

This award isn’t about being perfect. It’s about growth, perseverance, and the intentional work of becoming the best version of yourself. That’s why Domanick earned it.

I’ve had the privilege of teaching Domanick since he was in 6th grade. Over the last three years, I’ve seen him in the classroom, at sporting events, around the community, and in countless everyday moments. I’ve watched him grow from a young man who often let his emotions get the best of him into someone who is learning what true character looks like.

I’ve seen him make mistakes. I’ve seen him get frustrated. I’ve seen him struggle.

But more importantly, I’ve seen him grow.

I’ve seen him take younger players under his wing and help them succeed. I’ve seen him stop to encourage a friend who was having a rough day. I’ve seen him make conscious decisions to avoid situations he knew could lead him down the wrong path. I’ve seen him step up when others wouldn’t. I’ve seen him care deeply about people. I’ve seen him choose to be better.

There were many days when Domanick was the only boy in class doing exactly what he was supposed to be doing. Not because someone was watching, but because he was learning to hold himself accountable.

Is he perfect? No. His grades aren’t always where they could be. He still has moments where he makes poor choices. Like all of us, he’s still a work in progress.

But that’s exactly why this award means so much.

Character isn’t measured by never falling down. It’s measured by getting back up, learning from your mistakes, and continuing to move forward. And when I look at Domanick, I see a young man who has done exactly that.

The goodness that has always been inside of him is becoming more visible every year, and I think he’s starting to see it in himself too.

Domanick, I am incredibly proud of you. I am proud of the young man you are today, and I am excited about the man you are becoming. You have so much potential, and I truly believe you can do amazing things if you continue on this path of growth.

As you head off to high school, know that I’ll be cheering for you every step of the way. I will miss you, and I care about you very much.

Congratulations on being named WLMS Character Builder of the Year. You’ve earned it. 🌟

WLMS 8th Grade Awards Day ❤️🖤

Today, we want to recognize and celebrate our amazing 8th grade CIS students as they close this chapter and prepare for the next.

A special recognition goes to Domanick Miller, Aileigha Cruz, and Marcus Lindsay for spending all three years of middle school in CIS. Their dedication, growth, and presence have helped shape our classroom family in countless ways.

We would also like to recognize Mya Pava Jones, Abigail DeBaeremaeker, and Trixie McDonnell for being part of the CIS class for the last two years. Thank you for the memories, hard work, and positive impact you have made.

And to all of the other wonderful CIS students who either joined us this year or who were part of our “unseated” family—thank you. No matter how long you were in our classroom or part of our crew, you became part of our CIS family. Each of you brought something unique, and our class was better because of it.

One of the greatest privileges of being a CIS teacher is having the opportunity to be a part of my students’ lives, no matter how long I am honored to do so. I have enjoyed watching you grow, overcome challenges, celebrate successes, and become the incredible young people you are today.

As you move on to high school and new adventures, know that I am proud of each and every one of you. I wish you nothing but success, happiness, and confidence in the years ahead.

You will be missed more than you know, but your CIS family will always be cheering you on. ❤️

Congratulations, Class of 2030

PS- I will be patiently waiting on those Graduation invites, because I can not wait to be there cheering you on as you cross that stage!
