The final session of our 2026 Leadership Lenexa program focused on several City of Lenexa, Kansas departments that keep our city safe, fun, and functioning. Thank you to this session's sponsor, MilliporeSigma.
This session gave us an even greater appreciation for the men and women (and dogs) of the Lenexa Police Department
and the City of Lenexa, Fire Department, who put their lives on the line every day to protect us. It also celebrates those who keep things going behind the scenes and are often the unsung heroes, like the staff at the municipal services department.
Did you know that our municipal services department takes care of (among many other things):
*820 lane miles of road
*235 miles of sidewalks and paths
*8500 street lights
The stormwater division's Rain to Recreation program is an award-winning initiative that reduces flooding and protects water quality by integrating green infrastructure with natural habitats, lakes, and parks. A great way to see this program at work is at Black Hoof Park's Lake Lenexa dam and spillway.
Lenexa Parks and Rec is all fun and games, but they take it seriously. They oversee more than 30 parks, miles and miles of trails, pools, festivals, special events, Lenexa's historical campus, the rec center, three pools, and much more.
Did we mention dogs? One of the highlights of the day is meeting the Lenexa PD's K9 Unit, which includes Alpha, Bart, and Bruno, who are very good boys. Unless you are a bad guy.
Thank you to the companies who allow their representatives the time to participate in the program: MilliporeSigma, Quest Diagnostics, Country Club Bank, a division of FNBO, McCownGordon Construction, Lakeview Village, the City of Lenexa, JE Dunn Construction, Harmon Construction, Inc., Azura Credit Union, AdventHealth, CACI Communications, LLC, Baker University, The Fillmore KC Event Space, Capitol Federal, UMB Bank, Johnson County Community College, Nabholz Corporation, Johnson County, KS Sheriff's Office,
